Kumaraswamy holds meeting with Legislators of Mandya district

Mandya, Mar 20: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy held a meeting of Legislators of Mandya District, even as film actor turned politician Sumalatha Ambaressh, wife of former Karnataka Minister late M H Ambareesh, filed her nomination as independent candidate to Mandya Lok Sabha seat on Wednesday.

The meeting assumes significance since JDS Leader Mr Kumaraswamy is fielding his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who is also a film actor and testing his political fortune. Nikhil is expected to file his nomination on March 25. JDS has held all the 7 Assembly seat in the Mandya District and the party want to maintain supermacy despite Sumalatha Ambareesh contesting.

JD-S party sources said that Kumaraswamy has decided to camp in Mandya city to ensure the victory of his son. He will launch the campaign after performing puja at the Adichunchanagiri Mutt.

Bengaluru, Jun 28: Novel coronavirus has claimed another police officer's life here, official sources said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the deceased police officer attached to station in Whitefield division had collapsed in his home on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Police officer, working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who was diagnosed with COVID-19 infection, also reportedly suffered from breathing related problems, the sources said.

Shivamogga, Jan 11: Members of Karnataka Congress women's wing staged a protest in Shivamogga on Friday against the rise in onion prices and domestic LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders.

As a mark of protest, the demonstrators wore garlands made of onions, drew rangoli on the road and cooked food with firewood. The protestors also carried posters comparing the price of cylinders in Congress and BJP-led government in the Centre.

The price of non-subsidised LPG was hiked by Rs 19 per cylinder from January 1, 2020.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: The results of Karnataka Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations will be announced on Monday, August 10.

Primary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said, "The results will be announced at about 3 pm on August 10."

This year, over 8.50 lakh students appeared for the exams amidst the Covid-19 pandemic fear across the state.

The department conducted the exams successfully despite resistance from various quarters and pressure to postpone the exams.
