Kundapur, Jun 21: The terrific road accident which claimed the lives of eight schoolchildren and injured a dozen others near Trasi in Kundapur taluk on Tuesday could have been avoided if the drivers of the private bus and Maruti Omni were responsible and considerate.

The driver of the Maruti Omni, identified as Martin, who is also the owner of the vehicle, also suffered injuries in the accident and was admitted to a private hospital. Medical sources said that he is out of danger.

Naresh, a passenger on board the private bus, which rammed into the Maruti Omni at Mohadi Cross, claimed that the Omni driver suddenly took a turn.

Even though the van's side indicators were on, the passengers in the bus said that there was poor visibility due to heavy rains in the area.

The bus, which was moving at a high speed, hit the van even though the bus driver applied breaks. “If the Omni driver was cautious and considerate, the tragedy would have been averted,” he said.

The private bus was on its way from Byndoor to Kundapur and the van was plying in the opposite direction.

Moreover, there were 19 people travelling in the Omni including 17 students of Don Bosco School, one of their teachers, identified as Philomena and the driver Martin.

Jurisdictional Gangolli police have registered a case and investigations are on.

Both bus and Omni drivers are guilty. But no punishment can replace 8 lives. very very unfortunate incident.

This could be avoided if our authorities are serious and ever if they think about public safety more than filling their pockets.
Daily we see these school vans...private buses...tippers....killing people over speeding .. etc.. not even a single driver changed himself at least from the fear of law.... time for public to man handle these killer drivers..

Bengaluru, Feb 20: Leaving the organisers of an event to protest against the CAA, NRC and NRP here red-faced, a young woman on Thursday reportedly raised "Pakistan Zindabad" slogan in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who denounced her action and asserted "we are for India".

The woman, identified as Amulya, allegedly asked people to shout with her "Pakistan Zindabad" after the organisers of the event under the banner of "Save Constitution" invited her to address the gathering soon after Owaisi came on the stage.

Soon Owaisi rushed to snatch the mike from her hands and was joined by others who tried to remove her from the state.

But the woman was adamant and raised the slogan again repeatedly. Later, the police stepped in and removed her from the dais.

Owaisi then addressed the gathering, saying he did not agree with the woman.

"Neither me nor my party has any link with her. We denounce her. The organisers should not have invited her here. If I knew this, I would not have come here. We are for India and we no way support our enemy nation Pakistan. Our entire drive is to save India," the AIMIM MP said.

JD(S) corporator Imran Pasha claimed she was planted by some rival group to disrupt the event.

The woman, he said, was not in the list of speakers and demanded that the police investigate the matter seriously.

Sources say Amulya hails from Chikkamagaluru and her parents have always been in the forefront of taking on government and its policies for well over a decade.

As per local TV reports, the student was taken to Upparpet police station, but later shifted to an undisclosed destination for more questioning.

Mangaluru, Apr 13: Struck by the boredom of lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus, a 17-year old was caught on Sunday trying to sneak his friend out of his apartment complex by stuffing him inside a suitcase, police said.

"A minor, aged 17-years-old, a resident of Orchid Apartment, Balmatta invited his friend, a resident of Motisham Apartment, Pandeshwar to stay with him on April 11, Saturday," said PS Harsha, the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru.

The friend wanted to return back to his apartment in Pandeshwar the next day but due to strict security put in place, he got inside a large trolley suitcase. Security guards at the apartment, however, got suspicious when they noticed the wobbling of the suitcase that was being wheeled to the gate.

Based on the suspicions, security personnel alerted the residents of the building and opened the suitcase from which they were shocked to find the boy's friend stepping out. Police were later called in.

A case has been registered against the two minors at the East Police station, police said adding that the duo will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
