Kundapur school van mishap: 5-year-old girl still battling for life

Udupi, Jun 26: One of the injured schoolchildren in last Tuesday's road mishap at Trasi still battling for life at a private hospital in Manipal, here.

Sources of KMC Hospital said that 5-year-old Lizel Crasta, whose condition is critical, is still under observation.

However, she has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing on her own, they said.

Three of the injured children who were undergoing treatment at the same hospital were discharged on Friday. They are Minora Risha Dias, 10, Mario Olivera and Oprah Crasta, 7.

Eight children, all aged below 14, were killed and nearly a dozen others injured in a horrific road accident on June 21 morning at Trasi village in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district.

As many as 17 children were on their way to Don Bosco School in Trasi village in a mini-van amidst rain when a private bus heading to Kundapur rammed into it.

Mangaluru: 26-yr-old youth who returned from Mumbai dies of coronavirus

Mangaluru, Jun 14: A 26-year-old man, who had recently returned to Mangaluru from Maharashtra, succumbed to coronavirus today. With this number of covid-19 deaths in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada rose to eight.

After returning from Mumbai, he had undergone institutional quarantine on May 28 and 29. Later, he was under home quarantine as he was suffering from kidney related ailment. He completed his home quarantine on June 10.

On June 12, the youth was admitted to the private hospital in the city due to kidney related ailment. He did not respond to treatment and died.

His throat swab sample was tested after which it was confirmed that he was having coronavirus infection also.

Mangaluru Mar 30: The Mangaluru South Police has registered a criminal case against a man over a 'derogatory post' against the district administration. According to DC Sindhu B Rupesh, the man identified as Melwyn Pinto had sent a derogatory message on WhatsApp.

She warned on taking stringent action against miscreants who are spreading false information and rumours about district administration under DM Act provisions.

Meanwhile, City Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha said, "We have noticed people going around on merry rides without purpose either on two-wheelers or in cars during the lockdown period."
