Lack of trust between Modi & BSY: HDK

Bengaluru, Oct 4: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy alleged on Friday that there was a lack of trust between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

"The Chief Minister's inability to meet the Prime Minister gives an indication that there is a lack of trust between the two," he told reporters at Mysuru.

The former chief minister was replying to a query on "delay" in the Centre extending aid to the flood affected regions of Karnataka.

Kumaraswamy, who was succeeded by Yedyiurappa, said the Prime Minister cooperated with him well when he was the Chief Minister. "When I was the Chief Minister, there was a severe flood in Kodagu district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi used to talk to me regularly, coordinated very well and got the relief works done. He cooperated with me," he added.

Kumaraswamy rubbished Yediyurappa's reported charge that the treasury was emptied by the previous Congress-JD(S) coalition government. "He is saying the government treasury is empty. Because I too had served as chief minister for 14 months, I know that our treasury is full. When floods hit the state when I was thechief minister, relief works were carried out without comingunder the obligation of the Centre," Kumaraswamy said. "There is no financial problem before the government to carry out flood relief works," he said.

The BJP-led government at the Centre has come under sharp criticism from the opposition Congress and JD(S) for not releasing funds for relief works in the flood-affected districts of Karnataka. In August, almost all the rivers of Karnataka were in spate causing severe damage in 22 out of 30 districts of the state.

As many as 84 people lost their lives, while 1.5 lakh houses were damaged. More than 5.5 lakh hectares of land was inundated damaging the crops extensively. The state government has estimated that the loss was over Rs 35,000 crore and is looking at the Centre for funds, which is yet to respond.

Rejecting criticism of delay in securing central aid, Yediyurappa had on Wednesday said the central funds would be released in a couple of days as the Prime Minister was aware of the situation.

Mangaluru, May 13: Karnataka revised its standard operating procedure (SOP) for international passengers to allow pregnant women, children and senior citizens to entre home quarantine if they test negative for covid-19. 

The development comes after former minister and Mangaluru MLA U T Khader urged the government to follow the Kerala model in handling the repatriates and take extra care of pregnant women and senior citizens at Mangaluru and Bengaluru Airports.

Passengers will be initially dived into two categories. Category A includes passengers symptomatic on arrival while Category B passengers are those asymptomatic on arrival. 

While category A passengers will be directly shifted to covid-19 hospital, category B passengers will be sent to 14-day institutional quarantine.

If there are pregnant women, children below 10 years of age and senior citizens in category B, they will remain in institutional quarantine until they obtain a negative report (after throat swab testing for covid-19). It may take one or two days to get the throat swab testing report.

Mangaluru, July 30: Under the KKMA Dream House (Home for Homeless) project, the Karnataka Branch of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association built two new houses at Nelyadi in Puttur taluk (house # 12 & 13) and handed over the keys on 29th July 2020 to the two widows as an Eid al-Adha gift for them.

Mr. S.M. Basha, president of Sea Food Buyers Association, Mangaluru, Mr. Sajid A.K, president of Highland Islamic Forum (HIF), Mangaluru, Mr. S.M. Farooq, president of KKMA Karnataka State Committee and Mr. Abubakker Thumbay, Vice President of Karnataka Branch Religious Affairs graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

Mr. S.M. Basha along with other dignitaries handed over the House # 12 key to a widow with three daughters at Bail house in Nelyadi and Mr. Sajid A.K. handed over the House # 13 key to another widow with two children at Alampadi in Nelyadi. 

Ustaad Haneef Saqafi, Qateeb Badriya Juma Masjid Nelyadi, Advocate Ismail, Ex-President and present committee member, Abdul Qader, Secretary of Jamaat, Taj Umar, Treasurer of Jamath, City Abbu, Ex-President of Jamath were present.  Ustaad Haneef Saqafi did the dua prayers. Mr. Abdul Rehman,  Contractor of the two houses was also present.

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association being a leading Social Service Organization is an Extrordinary organization of ordinary people has successfully implemented several social development projects in Kerala and Karnataka states. KKMA Karnataka branch has previously handed over 11 houses for homeless at different places in Dakshina Kannada District.

Gadag, Aug 1: A woman in Gadag district of Karnataka mortgaged her 'mangalsutra' to buy a television set for her children following the Karnataka government's decision to continue the classes through TV amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A resident of Radder Naganur village, Kasturi, who is also a mother of two, purchased a television set against her 'mangalsutra' for Rs 14,000. She bought the TV after her children's school teachers asked them to attend classes via the television set.

Kasturi said, "I can not send the children to the neighbours' house every day and it was necessary for them to study. We had no other option but to buy a TV set."

She said, "Both, my husband and I are daily wage workers and during coronavirus, we do not have work or money."

"I sold my 'mangalsutra' for Rs 20,000 and bought a TV for Rs 14,000," said Kasturi while happily adding, "Now, my kids can study at home itself."

Kasturi's daughter, Surekha said, "We did not have the TV for several months but now when we have it, we will study and get a bigger 'mangalsutra' for my mother."
