Lancy D'Cunha elected vice-president of All India Catholic Union

LANCY

Mangalore, August 26: Lancy D'Cunha of Mangalore has been elected as national vice-president of All India Catholic Union.

The decision was taken at the annual general body meeting of AICU held recently Kolkata.

Mr Lancy D'Cunha served AICU as Honorary Treasurer in 2008-10 and Secretary General in 2010-12. He was the President of Catholic Sabha, Mangalore Pradesh for two terms (2008-2010).

AICU represents almost 16 million Catholics in India: followers of the Latin Rite, the Syro Malabar Catholics and the Syro Malankara Catholics. It has 120 diocese and district units. The AICU was established in 1930.

Bengaluru, Jun 12: All the four candidates, including former prime minister H D Deve Gowda (JDS), and senior Congress leader Mallikarjna Kharge, on Friday were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

Karnataka Assembly Secretary sources here said that all the four candidates, who were in the fray for as many berths, were elected after the last date of withdrawal of candidature ended on Friday.

Mangaluru, Jun 15: The case of two elderly Dubai returnees who are being treated for Covid-19 at the Wenlock Covid-19 Hospital has left doctors perplexed.

The two aged 76 and 81 men had arrived from Dubai on May 18 and 12 respectively and are at the hospital since one month. 

To everyone's surprise, six of their tests have come out positive though they have not shown any symptoms of SARS-CoV-2.

Kasaragod, Jul 14: Kerala State Excise department officials confiscated hawala money to the tune of Rs 2.85 crore from a person hailing from Mangaluru.

According to sources, the officials of the Kumbala Range Excise had noticed the huge baggage containing hundreds of bundles of unaccounted currencies when they intercepted a vehicle at the border check-post at Thoominad in Manjeshwar early on Tuesday morning.

The accused Shamsudheen, who was trying to transport the illegal money into Kerala has been arrested and handed over to the Manjeshwar police authorities for further action, sources added.
