Landslide hits rail services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 20: The weekend train services have been between this coastal city and the state capital have been cancelled following fresh landslides along railway tracks between Shirivagilu and Subramanya Road Railway station.

Satish, Senior Divisional Operations Manager and Sr PRO South Western Railway Mysuru Division, said that the railways has decided to cancel /partial cancel/ divert train services on Saturday and Sunday in order to ensure the safety of the passengers.

Following trains are cancelled

Train No 16575. Yasvantpur to Mangaluru Jn. express journey commencing on July 21

Train No 16576. Mangalore Jn to Yasvantpur express journey commencing on July

Partial cancellation

Train No 16513 KSR Bengaluru to Karwar express train Journey commencing on Saturday is partially cancelled between Mangaluru central to Karwar.

Train No16514 Karwar to KSR Bengaluru express journey commencing on July 21 is partially cancelled between Karwar to Mangaluru Central.

Diversion of Trains

Train No 16511/16513 KSR Bengaluru to Kannur/Karwar express journey commencing on Saturday is diverted to run via Jolarpettai, Salem, Palghat, Shoranur Jn instead of via Shravanabelagola, Hassan, Sakleshpur, Mangaluru.

Train No.16518/16524 Kannur/Karwar to KSR Bengaluru express journey commencing on Saturday is diverted to run via Shoranur Jn, Palghat, Salem, Jolarpettai instead of via Mangaluru, Sakleshpura, Hassan, Mysuru.

Bengaluru, Jun 12: All the four candidates, including former prime minister H D Deve Gowda (JDS), and senior Congress leader Mallikarjna Kharge, on Friday were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

Karnataka Assembly Secretary sources here said that all the four candidates, who were in the fray for as many berths, were elected after the last date of withdrawal of candidature ended on Friday.

Bengaluru, June 19: The throat swabs of a Bengaluru-based Kannada journalist, who passed away on June 18, were tested positive for the covid-19, officials said.

Gauripura Chandru (54), who was one of the sub-editors of Vijaya Karnataka Kannada daily newspaper, had reportedly suffered cardiac arrest.

It is learnt that Chandru wasn’t keeping well for past few days. He collapsed at his home on Thursday afternoon and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

A native of Gauripura in Chitradurga district, Chandru had completed graduation in engineering. However, he had chosen journalism as his profession.

Mangaluru, Jan 29: Days after some youths allegedly threatened to 'behead' local MLA and former Karnataka minister U T Khader during a pro-CAA rally here, the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Congress on Wednesday urged the police to register a case against the culprits.

A video of the incident that went viral on social media showed the youths raising slogans that they will "cut off his limbs and chop off his head if necessary" during the rally organised by the BJP in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act on Monday.

Addressing reporters here, District Congress Committee president Harish Kumar demanded that the police register a case on their own against the youths. He said if prompt action was not taken against the youths seen in the video, the Congress will launch an agitation before the office of the Commissioner of Police.

When asked by reporters about the video, Khader had on Tuesday brushed aside the threat, saying he had not taken it seriously. The MLA had also said he did not file a complaint with police as he had concern for the families of the youths.
