Kejriwal, AAP - Historic victory

Having backed Nitish Kumar in the high-stakes poll contest, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today congratulated the JD(U) leader for his "historic victory" as trends showed the grand alliance surging ahead of the BJP-led NDA in Bihar.

"Many congratulations Nitishji on this historic victory," Kejriwal said in a post in Hindi on Twitter.

Omar Abdullah, National Conference - Critical win for nation

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on his "victory" in the state assembly elections on Sunday.

"Heartiest congratulations on a well deserved victory Nitish Kumar sahib," Omar tweeted. "Your victory will prove critical for the nation in the days ahead."

Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena - Modi must take blame

The Shiv Sena said on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must take responsibility for the BJP combine's defeat in the Bihar assembly election.

After saying that Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar had emerged as "a political hero" after leading his alliance to a victory, he said it was time for Modi to accept responsibility.

"This is a big win for Nitish Kumar. He has emerged as a political hero," Sena's Sanjay Raut told the media.

"When Congress loses, then it's (president) Sonia's (Gandhi) responsibility. Similarly, BJP must accept that Bihar results is Modi's responsibility," Raut said.

He added: "We congratulate Nitish Kumar. This result will be a turning point in the country's political future."

Sharad Yadav, JD (U) - Negative statements by BJP leaders worked against NDA

Negative statements from leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the RSS during the Bihar assembly election campaign went against the NDA, Janata Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav said here on Sunday.

"(RSS chief) Mohan Bhagwat's remark on (doing away with) reservation also went against them. It became a big factor," he told CNN-IBN TV.

Yadav said it was a defeat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his government and leaders like BJP chief Amit Shah who were fully involved in the electioneering.

"It's a win for the Grand Alliance and Nitish Kumar's developmental work...," he added.

Lucknow, Aug 4: Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday left for Ayodhya to attend foundation laying ceremony of Ram Temple tomorrow.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5. The construction of Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya after the said ceremony in which various dignitaries from political and religious fields are scheduled to participate.

Bhagwat, along with PM Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel and President of Ram Mandir Trust, Nitya Gopal Das will be present on stage for the event.

Supreme Court, on November 9 last year, had directed the Central government to hand over the site at Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple.

The formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust was announced on February 5 for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. The Trust has been mandated by the Central government to oversee the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

New Delhi, Jun 12: India's COVID-19 tally on Friday witnessed its highest-ever spike of 10,956 cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

396 deaths have been reported due to the infection during the last 24 hours.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 2,97,535 including 1,41,842 active cases, 1,47,195 cured/discharged/migrated and 8,498 deaths.

COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra continue to soar with the number reaching 97,648. Tamil Nadu's coronavirus count stands at 38,716 while cases in Delhi reached 34,687.

Visakhapatnam, May 7: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday announced an ex- gratia payment of Rs one crore each to the kin of those killed in the styrene gas leak incident at LG Polymers Limited near here.

The NDRF had put the death toll from the leak at 11.

The chief minister announced a committee to probe into the mishap and also said the government would talk to the LG Polymers management seeking job for the kin of the deceased in any of its businesses.

Speaking to reporters after conducting a review meeting, Reddy also announced Rs 10 lakh each to those undergoing treatment on ventilator support and Rs 25,000 to those who took treatment as out-patients after developing health complications due to inhalation of the styrene vapour.

Earlier, he held a review meeting at the Andhra Medical College with District Collector Vinay Chand and others.

The gas leak victims undergoing treatment in various hospitals would be paid Rs one lakh each. The 15,000-odd population in the five villages that were affected by the gas leak would be paid Rs 10,000 each, the chief minister added.

Reddy further announced constitution of a high-level committee, headed by the Special Chief Secretary (Environment and Forests), to probe into the mishap and make recommendations to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Earlier, he visited the King George Hospital and consoled the victims of the gas leak.

Accompanied by his Deputy holding the health portfolio A K K Srinivas and Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney, Reddy flew down to the port city and went straight to the KGH.

He met the gas leak victims undergoing treatment and enquired about their well-being.

At the review meeting, the Collector informed the Chief Minister that the gas spread was limited to a 1.5 to 2 km area from the epicentre of the leak and that the locals were evacuated to safety.

Of the two styrene tanks in the plant, the leak occurred from one that was holding about 1,800 kilo litres of the chemical.
