Left Cong because Gundu Rao is an unfit leader, says disqualified MLA Somashekar

Bengaluru, Sept 27: We left the Congress party because Dinesh Gundu Rao is an incapable president of Karnataka's Congress unit, said disqualified party MLA ST Somashekar on Friday here.

Speaking to media persons here, Somashekar said: "We left the Congress because Gundu Rao is an incapable KPCC president. The coalition government was not on the proper path. That is why we resigned and destabilized the Kumaraswamy government. Siddaramaiah and KR Ramesh Kumar were very happy to disqualify us."

Somashekhar's remark came in the wake of continuous attacks by Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Rao on the disqualified Congress legislators.

Responding to the attacks, Someshekar said: "Does Congress only belong to Dinesh Gundu Rao, Krishna Byre Gowda, Rizwan Arshad, and Siddaramaiah? I suggest Rao keep quiet and not speak about disqualified MLAs again and again."

"Why could they not take any action against the person who is the reason for the defeat of KH Muniyappa, HD Deve Gowda, and Nikhil Kumaraswamy? Is this Siddaramaiah's Congress or the original Congress which has got 120 years of history?" he asked.

Bengaluru, Jul 19: A total of 4,120 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Karnataka on Sunday, taking the total number of 63,772 in the state, informed the state's health department.

Out of the total cases reported in the last 24 hours, 2,156 were reported from Bengaluru.
The total figure includes 39,370 active cases, 23,065 recoveries, and 91 deaths.

"Karnataka crossed the 10-lakh-tests milestone today. So far, we conducted 10,20,830 tests across 88 labs in the state and 35,834 tests today," Minister for Medical Education of Karnataka tweeted on Sunday.

Hubballi, Jan 15: Leaders of the Muslim community, Dalit organisations, Congress Party, and others are staging a hunger strike at Dr B R Ambedkar Circle in Hubballi, opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, they demanded the withdrawal of the CAA and not to implement NRC.

"India is witnessing such a dictatorship for the first time. The BJP government is trying to divide people into the lines of religion, through CAA and NRC. This move is a threat for peace and harmony in the country," said AICC member Shakir Sanadi, who led the protest.

Sayed Tajuddin Quadri, Moulana Niyaz Alam, Moulana Nayimuddin and others took part in the hunger strike.

Former minister A M Hindasgeri, former MP I G Sanadi, F H Jakkappanavar, Pitambrappa Bilar, and others also extended support to the protest.

Udupi, Jan 25: The accused, who planted a crude bomb at the Mangalore International Airport on January 20, was brought to Udupi on Saturday, to collect information, as part of the spot investigation, police said here.

According to police officials, accused Aditya Rao was brought to Karnataka Bank Kadiyali branch, where Rao had a Safe Locker. The team opened the locker and seized the documents, along with a Box.

They said the seized documents, along with the Box, will be sent to the FSL for investigation.
