Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 1: Days after asking his fans to be ready to march to Fort St George, where the TN Assembly stands, Kamal Haasan met Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Speaking to reporters after meeting the veteran communist leader, the actor said "Left leaders are my heroes, I am certainly not saffron.''

"My colour is obviously seen over the forty years I have been working in cinema. It is definitely not saffron,'' Kamal Haasan said about his political affiliations.

Both Kamal and Pinarayi Vijayan said politics was indeed part of their talk. However, both refused to throw more light into what transpired in the meeting.

Pinarayi Vijayan and wife Kamala received Kamal and the actor had a traditional Onam feast with the CM.

"It was a friendly visit. But, politics was part of our talk. We spoke about south Indian politics and happenings in Tamil Nadu," Pinarayi Vijayan said after the meeting. He said Kamal had been a friend for long but was seeing him for the first time after becoming the CM.

After the visit, Kamal Hassan said he wanted to come and meet Pinarayi Vijayan last year itself but couldn't because of an accident. "This is a learning experience for me", he said. To queries from reporters, Kamal said colour of his politics was definitely not saffron. When quizzed whether he would work with the left movement, he answered, "Wait patiently".

He visited Pinarayi Vijayan for interviewing him for the Onam special show of CPM- controlled Kairali TV. A year ago, Pinarayi Vijayan was among the first ones to congratulate Kamal Hassan on receipt of the prestigious Chevalier Award.

The actor has been taking on Tamil Nadu state ministers and even engaging them with political attacks over corruption and NEET of late. The actor recently took on the TN CM as well and wondered why no one has sought the resignation of the chief minister.

On how much time he can devote to politics, the actor said that "It's not about joining politics. But, it is about how much time I can devote.''

The actor further said that the issues were more important than the government and people were more important than the government.

Speaking about his meeting with the Kerala CM, the actor said that he has been talking to Kerala CM about it (joining politics) and taking advice from him. He further said that he would be meeting more politicians. "I'll meet more politicians before I take a call on joining politicis,'' the actor added.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.

Washington, Jun 30: Researchers in China have discovered a new type of swine flu that is capable of triggering a pandemic, according to a study published Monday in the US science journal PNAS.

Named G4, it is genetically descended from the H1N1 strain that caused a pandemic in 2009.

It possesses "all the essential hallmarks of being highly adapted to infect humans," say the authors, scientists at Chinese universities and China's Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The researchers then carried out various experiments including on ferrets, which are widely used in flu studies because they experience similar symptoms to humans -- principally fever, coughing and sneezing.

G4 was observed to be highly infectious, replicating in human cells and causing more serious symptoms in ferrets than other viruses.

Tests also showed that any immunity humans gain from exposure to seasonal flu does not provide protection from G4.

According to blood tests which showed up antibodies created by exposure to the virus, 10.4 percent of swine workers had already been infected.

The tests showed that as many as 4.4 percent of the general population also appeared to have been exposed.

The virus has therefore already passed from animals to humans but there is no evidence yet that it can be passed from human to human -- the scientists' main worry.

"It is of concern that human infection of G4 virus will further human adaptation and increase the risk of a human pandemic," the researchers wrote.

The authors called for urgent measures to monitor people working with pigs.

"The work comes as a salutary reminder that we are constantly at risk of new emergence of zoonotic pathogens and that farmed animals, with which humans have greater contact than with wildlife, may act as the source for important pandemic viruses," said James Wood, head of the department of veterinary medicine at Cambridge University.

A zoonotic infection is caused by a pathogen that has jumped from a non-human animal into a human.

Los Angeles, Apr 28: A top-secret documentary feature about former first lady Michelle Obama is set to start streaming worldwide on Netflix from May 6.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the doc shares its title with Michelle Obama's best-selling 2018 memoir "Becoming" and recounts some of the same history of her life.

"Becoming", like the best documentary feature Oscar winner "American Factory", comes from Higher Ground, the production company run by former President Barack Obama and the former first lady, which has an exclusive pact with the streamer.

The documentary marks the feature directorial debut of cinematographer Nadia Hallgren known for her work on "Trouble the Water", the 2008 indie about a couple surviving failed levees, bungling bureaucrats, and their own troubled past and a portrait of a community abandoned long before Hurricane Katrina hit.

"Becoming" also picks up where that story left off by following her on the 34-city tour that she undertook while promoting her book.

"Those months I spent traveling meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can't be messed with.

"In groups large and small, young and old, unique and united, we came together and shared stories, filling those spaces with our joys, worries and dreams. We processed the past and imagined a better future. In talking about the idea of 'becoming,' many of us dared to say our hopes out loud," Michelle Obama said in a statement.

The former first lady also addressed the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"It's hard these days to feel grounded or hopeful, but I hope that like me, you'll find joy and a bit of respite in what Nadia has made. Because she's a rare talent, someone whose intelligence and compassion for others comes through in every frame she shoots.

"Most importantly, she understands the meaning of community, the power of community, and her work is magically able to depict it.
