Bengaluru, Aug 18: Even as several Congress leaders are lobbying for the party ticket to contest the upcoming by-election to the Karnataka Legislative Council, chief minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly got high command’s approval to field former union minister CM Ibrahim.
Ibrahim has been Siddaramaiah's confidant since his JD(S) days. In the past few months, he vented his ire a couple of times on the CM’s style of functioning and there was speculation of him joining the JD(S).
Giving this good orator an MLC ticket seems to be one way of stopping party hopper Ibrahim from quitting the Congress.
The bypoll has been necessitated due to the death of BJP MLC Vimala Gowda recently. It will be held on August 31. The last date for filing nomination papers is August 21and for withdrawal is August 24.
The other Cong ticket aspirants include former minister Rani Satish, former legislator Nazeer Ahmed, G C Chandrashekar, Ramachandrappa, M S Basavaraju and Vinay Karthik.
