Bengaluru, Jun 25: Multi-crore ponzi scheme fraudster and IMA Jewels fugitive founder Mohammed Mansoor Khan would be protected if he surrendered and submitted to law, a senior police officer said on Monday.

"We will give protection to Khan. He should have no doubt about it. Whether an accused or anybody who wants to surrender or submit to law will be protected," Deputy Inspector General (IGP) Bengaluru and Special Investigation Team (SIT) head B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda told reporters here.

Gowda's response came a day after Khan in a purported video tape on the official Youtube of the city-based jewellery-cum-investment firm offered to return to India if his life was protected from those plotting to kill him.

Declining to share more details about Khan who fled from Bengaluru on June 8, Gowda said as investigation was underway, he would not reveal more as it would hamper the inquiry which was at various stages with international ramifications.

"We know where he (Khan) is but cannot disclose his location for the sake of investigation, which is progressing well. We will share more information with the media as and when necessary in public interest," said Gowda.

In the 18-minute video uploaded on the social media Youtube on Sunday, Khan sought protection as he fears death threat to his life from all those who betrayed and ruined his 12-year business empire.

"As Khan is an accused in the ponzi scheme scam, we have to verify his claims and charges with facts, documents and evidence. Though he told many things, they have to be cross-checked with those whose names he took," said Gowda.

Accusing politicians, realty developers and an unnamed IAS officer for the downfall of his empire, Khan said in a mix of Urdu and English that he tried to return to India on June 14 but could not, as the airport security "off boarded" him from the plane.

"I was not allowed to fly back to India. I was told to meet the immigration officials, but could not as it was Jumma (Friday) and a government holiday. I made a mistake by leaving India. All were after my life. I had to hide my family in India for their safety and left in a hurry," says Khan, seeking help from Bengaluru police commissioner Alok Kumar for his return and safety of his life.

Khan, however, did not disclose in the video from which country airport and in which airlinea¿s aircraft he was off-loaded and by whom.

As the SIT, set up to probe the scam, got Khan's passport suspended to prevent him fleeing from where he fled to, ostensibly, Dubai, the airport security directed him to get official clearance even to fly back to India.

"To secure Khan's custody, we got the Interpol to issue a blue corner notice on Saturday to locate, identify and obtain information on him as he was wanted here for criminal investigation,a said Gowda.

The SIT also invoked the Karnataka Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments Act 2004 on Sunday to ensure justice to about 35,000 investors by recovering their money.

Nanded, May 24: In a sensational incident, a Lingayat seer from Karnataka was found murdered in his mutt in the Nanded district of Marathwada region of Maharashtra on Sunday.

The seer, who was strangled to death, has been identified as Shivacharya Nirvanarudra Pashupatinath Maharaj, the founder-spiritual head of Nirvanji Pashupatinath Mutt.

Addressing media persons, Nanded Superintendent of Police Vijaykumar Magar, the prime suspect, Sainath Langote first killed his accomplice Bhagwan Shinde and then went to the ashram late on Saturday.

He entered Shivaharya Maharaj's bedroom where he was resting and threw chilli powder in his eyes, blinding him.

Then he quickly grabbed cash of Rs 69,000, his laptop and other valuables in the bedroom worth approximately Rs.1.50 lakh, besides the seer's car keys.

As Shivacharya Maharaj attempted to grapple with him, Langote pinned him down and strangled him, then dragged his body to the sadhu's car parked outside and dumped it into the boot.

"He started the car and sped off towards the road outside, but the car crashed into the main gate of the ashram creating a noise, alerting the other sevaks sleeping inside the ashram," Magar said.

Around 8-10 other ashram sevaks rushed outside to check the ruckus and when they saw their seer's belongings and his body in the car trunck, they attempted to stop Langote, but he gave them the slip.

A short distance away, Langote managed to steal a motorbike and sped off into the darkness and hours later, the police found the body of his accomplice Shinde from a nearby school premises, Magar said.

In view of the sensitivity of the incident, Magar said around five crack teams were formed which fanned out into the district and managed to catch Langote this afternoon.

"The prima facie motive for the seer's murder was clearly robbery and the second killing could be due to rivalry or some differences among them. The absconder suspect has been caught by a police team. We will interrogate him and get further details of the crime," Magar said.

Nanded Congress strongman and PWD Minister Ashok Chavan appealed that the murder should not be politicized, since the police investigations are underway and the autopsy report is awaited.

He said the deceased sadhu belonged to the Lingayat caste, and both Shinde and Langote who belonged to the same community were his followers.

Shivacharya Maharaj had come to Nanded over a decade ago and set up the ashram which he ran along with a band of followers.

Mangaluru, Apr 23: Muslims in coastal Karnataka will fast tomorrow (April 24) along with Middle Eastern Muslims as the Khazis in the region have confirmed the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan tonight.

Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia and a few Middle Eastern countries have already declared that Friday will be the start of the month of fasting.

In Kerala and twin districts of coastal Karnataka - Dakshina Kannada and Udupi- the announcement was made following maghrib praers as the cresent moon was sighted in a few places in Kerala.

The Thakbeer was pronounced from the minarets of the mosques across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi after Maghrib Namaz as the religious heads confirmed the moon sighting.

However, the religious heads including Mangaluru Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliar and Udupi Khazi Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, have urged the Muslims to offer all the prayers including Taraveeh at homes along with family members due to the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

There will be no congregational taraveeh prayers in mosques and Muslims should follow the covid-19 guidelines of the government, they stated.

Ramadan begins around 11 days earlier each year. Its start is calculated based on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the beginning of the Muslim lunar month that varies between 29 or 30 days.

During the month, Muslims are expected to abstain during daylight hours from food, drink, smoking and sex to focus on spirituality.

How it is possible that only Kerala people can witness the moon?

Can they come forward in Media and give Shahaadah, why the other parts of India will not follow.
