Live worms found in 'fresh' Parle 20-20 Butter Cookies

Mangaluru, Apr 6: In a gross violation of food safety norms, a packet of biscuits manufactured by a leading brand were found infested with worms in Bantwal taluk of Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district.

Mohammed Ali, a resident of Puncha village in Bantwal taluk was in rude shock when he noticed worms emerging from biscuits in Parle 20-20 Butter Cookies packet.

He bought the 200 gram biscuit packet from a supermarket in his village on April 4 paying Rs 20. The product, packed on February 10, 2016, was well within the date of expiry, as it had a validity of six months.

The consumer has stored the biscuits as it is and urged the consumer activists to take up the matter with the local food and safety authorities and consumer court.

Bengaluru, Apr 19:  Karnataka's Technical Education department following Union Home Ministry’s guidelines, on Sunday directed all its colleges not to use the Zoom application to conduct online classes during the ongoing lockdown period.

Considering Union Home Ministry's advisory that Zoom app is not safe, the department has taken the decision and issued a circular asking all government, aided and unaided engineering, polytechnic (Diploma) colleges to stop using the app immediately.

The department recommended the use of a free app developed by TCS: "TCS iON Digital class room" or any other App recommended by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to conduct the online classes.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan on Wednesday said rumours that the state government has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false.

He clarified that the government has asked employers to explore the option of work from home amid the coronavirus scare.

"The rumours that the Govt has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false. We have asked employers to explore options of work from home for their employees. Let us be vigilant about this issue and not fall prey to any such rumours," Ashwathnarayan tweeted.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi has cancelled all seminars, workshops or conferences in the premises in the wake of coronavirus spread.

"All the functions including seminars, workshops, conferences are to be cancelled. This is for urgent and necessary compliance," officials from the hospital said.

Mangaluru, July 30: Under the KKMA Dream House (Home for Homeless) project, the Karnataka Branch of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association built two new houses at Nelyadi in Puttur taluk (house # 12 & 13) and handed over the keys on 29th July 2020 to the two widows as an Eid al-Adha gift for them.

Mr. S.M. Basha, president of Sea Food Buyers Association, Mangaluru, Mr. Sajid A.K, president of Highland Islamic Forum (HIF), Mangaluru, Mr. S.M. Farooq, president of KKMA Karnataka State Committee and Mr. Abubakker Thumbay, Vice President of Karnataka Branch Religious Affairs graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

Mr. S.M. Basha along with other dignitaries handed over the House # 12 key to a widow with three daughters at Bail house in Nelyadi and Mr. Sajid A.K. handed over the House # 13 key to another widow with two children at Alampadi in Nelyadi. 

Ustaad Haneef Saqafi, Qateeb Badriya Juma Masjid Nelyadi, Advocate Ismail, Ex-President and present committee member, Abdul Qader, Secretary of Jamaat, Taj Umar, Treasurer of Jamath, City Abbu, Ex-President of Jamath were present.  Ustaad Haneef Saqafi did the dua prayers. Mr. Abdul Rehman,  Contractor of the two houses was also present.

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association being a leading Social Service Organization is an Extrordinary organization of ordinary people has successfully implemented several social development projects in Kerala and Karnataka states. KKMA Karnataka branch has previously handed over 11 houses for homeless at different places in Dakshina Kannada District.
