Mangaluru, Oct 26: An atmosphere of bandh prevailed in the Suratkal-Kana-MRPL road area on Wednesday with local residents closing their shops and business establishments to support the ongoing agitation demanding repair of the unmotorable stretch.

The 4.5-km stretch wore a deserted look since 7 a.m. and the blockade continued till 5 p.m. Buses, auto-rickshaws remained off the road. Interestingly dozens of giant vehicles that ply to and from MRPL everyday also were missing on the stretch till evening.

Even though the area witnessed several protest in the past against the road, this is for the first time all the residents in the area joining the agitation, said a member of the Nagarika Horata Samiti, Kana, which had called for dawn to dusk road blockade today.

Addressing a protest meet at Kana junction Samiti convener B.K. Imtiyaz said that Dakshina Kananda MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, local MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MCC, MRPL and the other giant companies such as HPCL and BASF that operate thousands of heavy vehicles on the road, are collectively responsible for the present situation of the road.

He said that the MCC is trying to shrink away from its responsibility of repairing the road by merely blaming it on the MRPL.

This is the seventh protest staged by the Samiti urging the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd and Mangaluru City Corporation to repair the road. Today's protest comes after the MCC and MRPL failed to reach an agreement over taking up the repair work.

“So far we have staged peaceful protest. But, now we are losing patience. The elected representatives should fulfil their duties,” said a protestor.

Mangaluru, Jan 21: Operations at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) are normal, a day after security agencies detonated a bomb recovered from the airport in a controlled explosion, an official said on Tuesday.

"All operations are normal at Mangluru International Airport. Everything is normal," told the airport director V.V. Rao to IANS.

Rao said even on Monday, there was no interruption to the airport operations, except for that one recalled IndiGo flight to Bengaluru.

"As the explosive was isolated and taken away from the airport, there was no disturbance to flights, except one Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight which suffered a few hours delay and took off later," said Rao.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened at the airport.

Mangluru north assistant commissioner of police Belliappa told media that the police are still on the hunt for the culprits who planted the bomb at the airport.

"We are trying to trace the culprits, we got the footage of the suspects," said Belliappa, highlighting that the police are yet to find the name, age and other details of the suspects.

At Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), the number of police personnel has been increased in a bid to tighten the security and 24 hour searching of vehicles is underway.

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.

PFI is the first kind of organization which is doing community work in all the walks of life.

and providing the helping hands to all the Indian community doing marvelous job.

this is the first organization fighting against corrupt and injustice following the principle of our father of nation mahatma Gandhi’s.

the corrupt and injustice people in the society not ready to accept their policy and trying to stop the voices of justice to the society.

I wish PFI and its sub organizations will continue to support to the society and keep the good work so that people are with you.

RSS is the most active and first ever terrorist organisation in India and it should be banned first.    There is no proof of terrorist activities by SDPI and PFI.    BJP is afraid of these organisations as they give tought resistance to BJP and this is the reason why its planning to ban these organisations.    BJP is doing propoganda only.   Real thread for peace + harmoney in India by sanghis.   We should ban them first.
