Hyderabad, Dec 11: This was a crime of passion with a gory twist and the plot weaved around the Tollywood blockbuster, Evadu,in which actor Allu Arjun underwent plastic surgery to resemble another character (Ram Charan Tej). A woman and her alleged paramour killed her husband and then disfigured her lover's face with acid to pass him off as her husband. However, their plan went bust and Nagarkurnool police arrested the woman on Sunday.

The woman, M Swathi, 27, along with her paramour Rajesh, a physiotherapist, had murdered her husband M Sudhakar Reddy, 32, of Nagarkurnool nearly two weeks ago and dumped the body in a forest.

"Sudhakar Reddy was operating a stone-crushing unit. He married Swathi, a trained nurse, and the couple was blessed with two children. Swathi would go to Rajesh for physiotherapy and later they started having an affair. The duo felt Sudhakar was an obstacle in their relationship and decided to eliminate him. They hatched a conspiracy to ensure Rajesh could take the place of Sudhakar and even take control over properties," Nagarkurnool deputy superintendent of police (DSP) A Lakshmi Narayana said.

Around 5am on November 27, when Sudhakar was in sleep, Rajesh and Swathi gave him an anaesthetic injection and he lost consciousness. "The duo hit him hard on the head with an iron rod and killed him. Later, they moved the body into the boot of a car and dumped the body in the forest area in Nawabpet in Mahbubnagar district," the DSP said.

"After they returned home, Swathi smeared acid on Rajesh and disfigured his face. Later, she called up her relatives and told them that unidentified persons entered the house and threw petrol on her husband. 'Injured' Rajesh, who was pretending as Sudhakar Reddy, was shifted to Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad. On November 28, Sudhakar's brother lodged a complaint, alleging that unidentified persons attacked his brother and burnt him with petrol. We registered a case and began investigation," Lakshmi Narayana.

As the burns started healing, Sudhakar Reddy's family members suspected the injured man was actually Sudhakar. By then, they had spent around Rs 5 lakh for the treatment of their 'son'. "They repeatedly asked the injured person (Rajesh) in ICU about details of family members. He didn't speak a word as they would recognise his voice and started writing on the palm. As he was unable to give details, family members came to a conclusion that he was not Sudhakar Reddy. The family went to police and lodged another complaint, stating some other person took the place of Sudhakar Reddy. They also expressed doubts over Swathi," the DSP said.

On sustained interrogation, Swathi buckled under pressure and confessed. She also showed the location where the body was dumped. Police retrieved the decomposed body and handed it over to the family members. A murder case was booked against the two. Swathi was arrested on Sunday. Police said they would arrest Rajesh after he gets discharged from hospital.

Mumbai, Feb 11: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband over debt and illness in suburban Powai here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when Sheela Ajit Lad was found dead by her neighbours at Sukh Shanti Co-operative Society at around 9.30 pm on Monday, an official said.

The victim was allegedly killed by her husband Ajit Lad, who hit her on the head with a heavy object, slit her wrists and strangled her to death, he said.

The accused absconded at around 7.30 pm, leaving a note at the crime scene, saying he was going to commit suicide and had killed his wife because he was heavily in debt and she was suffering from an ailment, the official said.

The childless couple lived alone in the apartment, he added.

"On the basis of the note, we have registered a case of murder against Ajit Lad and have launched a manhunt for him. We have not traced him or found his body as he had mentioned suicide in the note," deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Zone X Ankit Goyal said.

Tengnoupal, Jan 21: A woman IPS officer has alleged that a rifleman of Assam Rifles physically assaulted and molested her at a check post near Moreh town in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, police said on Tuesday.

Based on a written complaint of the IPS officer, an FIR has been registered against rifleman P K Pandey and a summon has been issued to him to appear before the concerned police station, the police said.

Manipur DGP L M Khaute told reporters on Monday, "We have made contacts with the Assam Rifles authorities. A complaint has been lodged by the officer." In her complaint, the IPS officer said that on reaching Khudengtabi check post on Sunday afternoon one of her escorts, who was not in uniform, told the frisking party of Assam Rifles to register their entry.

Despite showing their identity cards, the rifleman allegedly detained them, she said.

"We offered to search ourselves and the vehicle, but he was not interested", she said.

The rifleman began hitting the official vehicle and "misbehaved, humiliated, harassed and assaulted me and my escort personnel," she alleged.

The IPS officer also alleged that the rifleman molested her and when her escorts tried to intervene, he thrashed them.

She further accused the rifleman of making "sexually coloured" remarks against her, using abusive language and even tried to snatch her phone when she tried to call her senior officers.

The issue was brought under control after the matter was reported to the Brigadier of 26th Assam Rifles and the Major of the D-company of 12th AR, police said.

May 11: Two youths allegedly gang-raped a teen and then hacked to death her 11-year old brother, who had seen their act, in a bid to hide their crime, at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, about 300 kilometres from here.

Police sources said that two youths, resident of the same village, barged into the house of the teen, when she was alone, and allegedly gang-raped her.

The victim's minor brother suddenly came into the house and protested after he witnessed his sister being sexually assaulted, sources said. The youths allegedly strangled the minor with a towel.

The alleged culprits, who hailed from influential families, 'forced' the victim's parents to bury their son and warned them against approaching the cops.

The parents, however, gathered courage and met senior police officials in Etah on Sunday after a case was registered in this regard. Police said that the body of the minor would be exhumed and a postmortem examination would be conducted.
