Lover sets 17-yr-old girl on fire for refusing to come out of her house

Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Jul 15: A 17-old-girl was allegedly set on fire by her lover after she refused to accede to his request to come out of her house at Kadammanitta near here, police said today.fr

The accused, who also suffered burn injuries, has been arrested today, they said.

The incident occurred last night when the girl's parents were not at home.

According to the police, the 23-year-old man had asked the girl to come out of the house but she refused. Angered over this, he returned with a bottle of kerosene, poured it on her and set her ablaze.

The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital by her neighbours and later shifted to Kottayam Medical College, where her condition was stated to be serious with over 80 per cent burn injuries, they said.

The man, who suffered 50 per cent burns, was traced at a hospital and is under arrest, police said.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Congress MLA Priyank Kharge has questioned the Karnataka government on the alleged breakdown of oxygen in the intensive care unit (ICU) at ESIC hospital in Kalaburagi, saying he had got complaints that eight persons who were on ventilators had died.

He asked the government if it is "deliberately" hiding something about the patients that were admitted in ESIC.

"I have got complaints that eight people who were on ventilators are dead in ESIC Kalaburagi because there was oxygen breakdown in ICU. ESIC has not been admitting patients as the issue has not been resolved. Nobody is confirming or denying it. Is the Government deliberately hiding something?" he asked.
Kharge also accused the government of not having adequate facilities to combat COVID-19 in different parts of the state.

"I hope I am wrong, but if it is a fact, this ascertains that the administration has lost control over Corona pandemic in the district. No addition testing centre. No beds are available. PPE Kits and medical waste is thrown in Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS)," he added.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 67420 COVID-19 cases in the state.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday has identified eight districts from Karnataka as COVID-19 hotspots.

Districts that have reported a higher number of cases are classified as hotspots, the districts where cases have been reported as non-hotspots, and green zones where no cases have been reported.

Bangalore Urban, Mysuru, Belagavi, Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Bagalokote and Dharwad have been identified as Covid-19 hotspots by Union Health Ministry, tweeted the state health department on Wednesday.
