LS bypoll: Yeddyurappa confident of his son Raghavendra’s victory in Shivamogga

Shivamogga, Oct 8: Karnataka BJP chief and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa breathed a sigh of relief after the district committee of the saffron party passed a unanimous resolution proposing his son B Y Raghavendra as the candidate for the byelection to the Shivamogga parliamentary seat.

Mr Raghavendra’s name was proposed by K S Eshwarappa, Shivamogga MLA. The proposal was seconded by M B Bhanuprakash, former MLC. Eshwarappa had earlier stated that there were multiple aspirants for BJP ticket for Shivamogga parliamentary seat. However, at the district committee meeting on Sunday, only Raghavendra’s name came up for discussion.

Mr. Eshwarappa told presspersons later that the name of Mr Raghavendra would be sent to party’s State committee. He is likely to file his nomination papers on October 15.

Speaking to presspersons later, B S Yeddyurappa, who had chaired the meeting said that the BJP camp in the district was in a positive frame of mind following its impressive performance in the recent elections for State Assembly and Shivamogga City Corporation. He expressed confidence that, Mr. Raghavendra would win the byelection by a huge margin.

D H Shankaramurthy, former Chairman of State Legislative Council; S. Rudre Gowda, president of party district unit; H. Halappa, Kumar Bangarappa, Araga Jnanendra and K.B. Ashok, MLAs were present in the meeting.

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Karnataka Health Department on Thursday permitted District Health Departments to appoint doctors with MBBS, on a contractual basis with permission of concerned District Health Officers and Commissioners, a statement said.

The state government has also hiked the salary of contractual doctors from Rs 45000 to Rs 60000 per month.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu urged contract doctors to continue offering their services amid their demand for regularisation of services.

"I request the contract doctors with folded hands to continue offering their services. With regard to their two demands, one of salary hike and the other being permanency, I assure all of them that I stand with them and their requests will definitely be fulfilled," said Mr Sriramulu.

The Chief Minister had also discussed about the two issues yesterday and agreed to facilitate the pay hike, he added.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said he has asked police to enhance the security of Congress leaders and former ministers UT Khader and Tanveer Sait.

"Threat perception has been there for some time now, all the more after the attack on Tanveer Sait. Their (Congress MLAs UT Khader and Tanveer Sait) security is necessary. I have intimidated them. I have asked police to enhance their security," Bommai told media persons.

"After the assault on Tanveer Sait, the police told me that there were some intelligence reports and asked to me to take proper security. They have given one police man for the name's sake," Khader said.

Bantwal, Jun 29: Seven SSLC students, who were on their way to write the examination, were injured in a road mishap near Panemangaluru on Monday.

According to sources, the auto-rickshaw in which the students were travelling overturned causing them injuries.

All the injured were students of Shambur Government high school.

Police said the accident took place as the driver lost control over the vehicle.
