M A Gafoor is new chief of Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation

Udupi, Nov 3: M A Gafoor, a senior Congress leader from Udupi, has been appointed as the new chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation.

Gafoor“It will be my endeavour to ensure that benefit of various government schemes for minorities reaches the last person among them,” said Mr Gafoor while thanking Chief Minister Siddaramiah and other party leaders for trusting him and giving him the new responsibility.

However, the secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, said that he wanted to serve all sections of society and not only minorities.

Mr Gafoor has served in the Udupi District Congress Committee for over three decades. He was president of the Udupi Congress for 12 years and member of Zilla Panchayat for three terms. Currently, he is also the in-charge of the party affairs in Shivamogga district.

Mangaluru, Jun 2: The Karnataka Muzarai department, whose main income comes through temple and other religious places of worship, has incurred a loss of Rs 600 Crore in revenue during the lock-down, Minister for Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojary said on Monday.

Addressing reporters here, he said the Kollur Sri Mookambika temple alone lost revenue of about Rs 14 crore it was earning during April and May.

Around 300 A and B grade temples under Muzrai (Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments) department in the State lost around 35 per cent of their annual income, he said.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The test report of the man from Uppoor in Udupi district, who committed suicide fearing he had contracted coronavirus infection, has returned negative for the virus.

Health department officials in Udupi said the post- mortem test report had shown that he did not have the virus infection and asked the people in the area not to panic.

Gopalakrishna Madivala (56), had hanged himself on Wednesday suspecting he had the disease, leaving a death note to family members asking them to stay safe.

Bengaluru,  Apr 30: As many as 30 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from April 29, 5:00 pm to April 30, 5:00 pm, taking the total number of cases to 565, informed the State Health Department on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,718 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 33,050 in the country.

A total of 630 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, as per the latest data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
