M M Kalburgi’s wife identifies the gunman who shot him

Bengaluru, Jul 18: The wife of Kannada scholar Prof. M M Kalburgi, who was assassinated at the doorstep of his home in Dharwad, has identified a man presented in a test identification parade as the person who shot her husband on August 30, 2015.

The man identified by Umadevi Kalburgi on Wednesday is Ganesh Miskin, 27, it is learnt.

He was the same man who was arrested last year by the Karnataka Police as one of the alleged in the Gauri Lankesh case.

Kalaburgi's son, Shreevijay Kalburgi, told Indian Express, "she identified the culprit in the identification parade today. The name of the person who was identified was not disclosed to us."

Till now, all the three charged for the Gauri Lankesh murder, have also been identified as culprits in the Kalburgi murder.

On August 20, 2015,  M.M Kalburgi, a Kendriya Sahitya Akademi awardee was murdered on the doorstep of his house in Dharwad.

Indore, Jan 24: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kailash Vijayvargiya on Thursday said that he suspected that there were some Bangladeshis among construction labourers who worked at his house recently.

Their “strange” eating habits aroused suspicion about their nationality, the BJP general secretary said at a seminar in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) here.

When a new room was being added at his house recently, he found “eating habits” of some of the workers “strange” as “they were eating only `poha’ (flattened rice)”, he said.

After talking to their supervisor and the building contractor, he suspected that these workers were from Bangladesh, the BJP leader said.

When reporters questioned him later, Vijayvargiya said, “I suspected these workers were residents of Bangladesh. Two days after I became suspicious, they stopped working at my house. I have not filed any police complaint yet. I only mentioned this incident to warn people,” he said.

Speaking at the seminar, Vijayvargiya also claimed that a Bangladeshi terrorist was keeping a watch on him for the last one and a half years.

“Whenever I go out, six armed security personnel follow me. What is happening in this country? Will outside people enter and spread so much terror?” he asked.

“Don’t get confused by rumours. The CAA is in the interest of the country. This law will provide asylum to genuine refugees and identify intruders who are a threat to the country’s internal security,” he added.

Bengaluru, May 4: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has said that the free bus service for migrant workers has been extended by two days in the state.
 
The service was supposed to end on Tuesday, but it has now been extended till Thursday.
 
The Chief Minister has appealed to workers and other people that they can return to their hometowns without having to gather in large numbers at bus stops.
 
He said, "951 KSRTC buses on Sunday were provided in the state for the travel of migrants. About 1,500 passengers have already gone in 50 busses."
 
On Saturday, an estimated 16,500 passengers in 550 buses left for their homes.
 
On Monday two trains will leave for Rajasthan and Bihar, the Chief Minister said.
 
He said in a press release that everyone will be provided with free meals and water before the journey.

Bengaluru, Apr 26: A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Vijayapura district in Karnataka for posting the photograph of a COVID-19 girl patient as his whatsapp status photo with a derogatory message, police said.

Anil Rathod on Saturday posted the picture of the girl student as status message with a caption, "Bad News Student got Positive"

By putting her photograph as his whatsapp status message, he tried to create fear among the masses and intentionally defamed her by making her photo go viral, the the police said in a statement.

It is an offence to reveal the identity of the COVID-19 patients by taking the photograph and putting it in the public domain, the police said.

Rathod has been booked under for spreading rumours and causing panic, they said.
