Maha CM dials Yediyurappa over flood situation

Mumbai, Aug 6: With the flood situation worsening in Maharashtra and its neighbouring states, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday dialled his Karnataka counterpart B S Yediyurappa and requested him to discharge water from the Almatti dam.

"CM Devendra Fadnavis also spoke to Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa and requested on Almatti discharge. He assured of positive actions," the statement from CMO Maharashtra read.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister also reviewed the flood situation in Yavatnal area along with Chief Secretary, Disaster Management Department and various Districts' administration of the region.

"CM Devendra Fadnavis in is in continuous touch with CS [Chief Secretaries], all these agencies and situation is under control," the notice from CMO Maharashtra read.

As many as six villages of Shirol Taluka, one from Hatkanangle, Chikhali, Ambewadi area and Kolhapur city have been submerged in water due to the overflow of Panchganga river.

Two NDRF teams are carrying out rescue operations and more teams of the Army, Navy and coastguard have been directed to reach the affected areas of Yavatnal at the earliest.

Not only that, but the rescue officials have also been given two helicopters for carrying out relief and rescue operations. So far, 1500 families have been evacuated from Yavatbnal and the administration is continuously monitoring the situation.

Lockdown in 9 districts of Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada till March 31

Bengaluru, Mar 22: The Karnataka government on Sunday afternoon announced that 9 districts in the State will be under lock down till March 31, barring essential services. It also announced imposition of Section 144 across the state for 3 hours - between 9 p.m. (when the "Janata curfew" will end) to 12 midnight.

The nine COVID-19-affected districts are Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru), Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburgi and Chikkablapur.

Announcing these measures after attending a meeting chaired by Chief Minister B. S Yeddyurappa, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that there will be no commercial activity in these districts till March 31.

Inter-district movement, including public transport will be restricted. "Public transport will not work across the state tomorrow too. Air conditioned buses will be stopped till March 31," he added. He also clarified that while public transport, including KSRTC, BMTC and Namma Metro, will be withdrawn, private transport services such as cabs and autos will continue to ply.

According to Mr. Bommai, the State government will put in place further measures next week depending on how the situation will unfold in the State and the neighbouring States.

"Government offices will be operational in the State, including in the nine COVID 19-affected districts. As per the current schedule, the legislature sessions will also continue. Pourakarmikas will be working at 50% strength," he added.

Congress creating confusion among Muslim over CAA, claims BSY

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Police firing: 50 videos of Dec 19 violence at Mangaluru submitted

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Police have submitted over 50 videos in a pen drive to Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha as evidence to violent protests that led to police firing on December 19 in which Jaleel and Nausheen died.

ACP and police nodal officer Belliyappa submitted a pen drive consisting over 50 video clips including CCTV footage.

The police earlier had submitted 20 digital video recorder (DVR) before the court and an acknowledgement of the same was produced before the Magistrate.

Hearing on video evidence will be held at High Court on February 24.
