Make Vidhana Soudha fete a low-key affair: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Oct 17: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday directed the presiding officers of both Houses of the legislature to make the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Vidhana Soudha a low-key affair.

The chief minister's direction comes in the wake of the controversy over the legislature secretariat’s plan to organise a grand celebration for the occasion.

The chief minister directed Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad and Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy to reduce the cost of the celebrations to Rs 10 crore, instead of Rs 26.87 crore as planned earlier. With this, the plan to gift expensive items to the lawmakers during the celebrations has been dropped.

Siddaramaiah also asked them to organise the celebrations only on October 25. The secretariat had planned a two-day event on October 25 and 26.

With this 10 crores what are they supposed to do ? It does not work out to them.

WHAT is wrong when our ELECTED LEADERS celebrate the DIAMOND JUBILEE OF VIDHANASOUHDA..KARNATAKA PRIDE.... people /kanadigas must be PROUD of...as any one ask when Political leaders visit and crores are spent...what will be the cost ot HUGE PARTY of 75000 bike riding from all over KARANTAKA..do you think bike owners will participate without benefit.... what kind of TRAFFIC MESS WILL BE THIS... is this not MONEY... We people must consider celebration of any KARNATAKA PRIDE with out leaders...

Whether the Secretariat has heeded to CM's advice? and "..... With this, the plan to gift expensive items to the lawmakers during the celebrations has been dropped." Is it only for the time being and will they get the gifts later on in their office in a "Low Key affair" where nobody will come to know.

Foriegn tripu (to study foriegn culture and system and implement in Karnataka), Vidhan Souda habba, seperate religion for lingayats, seperate flag for Karnataka etc etc. All these things must be done by CM and MLA's only. Otherwise the public will get angry that they have voted for non-performers. No other Govt has even thought about this. Great. Really great. Before next election, Siddu, please plan another foriegn trip along with your ministers and MLA's to study the road in developed countries. Family noo karkondu hogi. You cannot eat the food there. Your wife can make Jola da rotti with olle mosaru. Bombatu trip. If you have some other plan, then do not take your wife. Alli bread sigute.

Udaya Kumar chennagi helidiri. Innondu maatu. All these at the taxpayers money. Lancha hodiyodu allade kittu kondu tinnodu. Naachike illa ivarige.

Mangaluru: Youth dies in lift accident at wedding hall

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today.

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony.

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

With coronavirus cases rising, Karnataka to upgrade three more labs

Bengaluru, Mar 10: With concerns growing by the day, the Karnataka government is readying three more labs to test throat swab samples.

Currently, only two labs in Bengaluru — National Institute of Virology and Virus Research and Diagnostics Laboratory (VRDL) lab attached to Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute — are categorised biosafety level 2+, a requirement for coronavirus tests.

Now, the government is working on upgrading three more labs, one each in the government medical colleges at Hassan, Mysuru and Shivamogga. “The labs will be ready within one week,” the authorities said.

Currently, the labs are testing only throat swab samples of suspected patients and taking 24 hours to give the results. “A patient’s blood sample will be collected only if he or she tests positive for covid-19 infection in the first throat swab sample.

While earlier the state would send all samples of suspected coronavirus cases to NIV, Pune, the two labs were upgraded to biosafety level 2+ in mid-February.

When will be SSLC exam in Karnataka? Govt to take a call on May 18

Bengaluru, May 16: The Karnataka government is expected to take a call on Monday on holding the Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) or class 10 examination, which were postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar said there was a possibility that the state government may come out with a timetable on Monday. "We are holding a meeting regarding the SSLC examination," he told reporters here.

He also said there would be discussions on how to conduct the exams and precautionary measures to be taken in view of COVID-19.

"We have to make arrangements for masks, sanitisers and thermal scanners. We will set up a thermal scanner for a health check-up. We have to make separate seating arrangements for those having health issues. All these issues will be discussed on Monday," Kumar said.

The SSLC exams were supposed to commence from May 27 but due to the lockdown, it was postponed for an indefinite period.
