Make Vidhana Soudha fete a low-key affair: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Oct 17: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday directed the presiding officers of both Houses of the legislature to make the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Vidhana Soudha a low-key affair.

The chief minister's direction comes in the wake of the controversy over the legislature secretariat’s plan to organise a grand celebration for the occasion.

The chief minister directed Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad and Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy to reduce the cost of the celebrations to Rs 10 crore, instead of Rs 26.87 crore as planned earlier. With this, the plan to gift expensive items to the lawmakers during the celebrations has been dropped.

Siddaramaiah also asked them to organise the celebrations only on October 25. The secretariat had planned a two-day event on October 25 and 26.

With this 10 crores what are they supposed to do ? It does not work out to them.

WHAT is wrong when our ELECTED LEADERS celebrate the DIAMOND JUBILEE OF VIDHANASOUHDA..KARNATAKA PRIDE.... people /kanadigas must be PROUD of...as any one ask when Political leaders visit and crores are spent...what will be the cost ot HUGE PARTY of 75000 bike riding from all over KARANTAKA..do you think bike owners will participate without benefit.... what kind of TRAFFIC MESS WILL BE THIS... is this not MONEY... We people must consider celebration of any KARNATAKA PRIDE with out leaders...

Whether the Secretariat has heeded to CM's advice? and "..... With this, the plan to gift expensive items to the lawmakers during the celebrations has been dropped." Is it only for the time being and will they get the gifts later on in their office in a "Low Key affair" where nobody will come to know.

Foriegn tripu (to study foriegn culture and system and implement in Karnataka), Vidhan Souda habba, seperate religion for lingayats, seperate flag for Karnataka etc etc. All these things must be done by CM and MLA's only. Otherwise the public will get angry that they have voted for non-performers. No other Govt has even thought about this. Great. Really great. Before next election, Siddu, please plan another foriegn trip along with your ministers and MLA's to study the road in developed countries. Family noo karkondu hogi. You cannot eat the food there. Your wife can make Jola da rotti with olle mosaru. Bombatu trip. If you have some other plan, then do not take your wife. Alli bread sigute.

Udaya Kumar chennagi helidiri. Innondu maatu. All these at the taxpayers money. Lancha hodiyodu allade kittu kondu tinnodu. Naachike illa ivarige.

DVS urges MEA to add more flights from Gulf to Mangaluru, Bengaluru in existing schedule

Mangaluru, May 25: D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilizer, has once again written to the Ministry of External Affairs urging to take steps to operate more repatriation flights from Gulf countries to Karnataka.

In his second letter in 10 days addressed to Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Union Minister for External Affairs, expressed regret over not giving due priority for the repatriation of Kannadigas in the middle east during the extended second phase of Vande Bharat Mission.

"I shall be grateful if you could personally intervene and instuct the concerned in arranging flights to Mangaluru and Bengaluru from Gulf countries in existing schedule itself," Mr Gowda urged Mr Jayashankar.

Covid-19 | 89 new cases in DK, 2-month-old baby among 5 dead; 98 cases in Udupi

Mangaluru/ Udupi, Jul 20: Dakshina Kannada has recorded 89 new covid-19 cases and five deaths whereas as Udupi recorded 98 cases in past 24 hours.

With five new deaths, the covid-19 death toll in the district mounted to 82. Among the five deceased, two are from Mangaluru taluk, one from Beltangady taluk, one from Bantwal taluk and one from Chikkamangaluru district. The deceased include a 2 month old child (from Bantwal).

Out of the 89 cases, eleven persons had contracted the disease from primary contacts. Two persons had returned from the Gulf. Forty-five persons are suffering from influenza-like illness (ILI), and sixteen persons are suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). The health officials are tracing the contacts of fifteen others.

Meanwhile, 57 persons were also discharged from the hospital after complete recovery.

Udupi

With 98 new covid-19 cases, the total number of cases in the district today mounted to 2,321. Among them only 661 are currently active.

1650 patients have been discharged from the hospital after complete recovery, and 11 persons have succumbed to COVID-19 in the district.

As of now, 213 throat swab samples are pending for results, 54 samples were sent for testing on July 20. On Sunday, July 20, 251 samples have tested negative. As of now, a total of 22357 swab samples out of the 24891 have tested negative for the coronavirus.

20 special flights from Saudi to India announced; 3 and a half to Bengaluru; Sorry Mangaluru

Newsroom, Jun 2: The government of India has announced operation of another 20 special flights to repatriate stranded NRIs from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under Vande Bharat Mission.

All the repatriation flights will take off from three major airports – Dammam, Riyadh and Jeddah – between June 10 and June 16. Most of the flights will land in Kerala.

The first flight from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka in the new schedule will be operated on June 11. It will take off from Jeddah with passengers from both Kerala and Karnataka. After landing in Kozhikode it will continue its journey to Bengaluru.

The next three flights – Dammam to Bengaluru on June 12, Jeddah to Bengaluru on June 13 and Riyadh to Bengaluru on June 15 – will directly fly to Karnataka.

Even though thousands of Mangalureans are stranded in Saudi Arabian cities due to lockdown, the government has not announced any flight to Mangaluru International Airport.
