Gosaba, Nov 30: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today accused the BJP of trying to destabilise the state administration and asked people to be alert against provocation that might foment communal problem in the state.

Addressing a gathering after her brief meeting with the South 24 Parganas district administration here, Banerjee also asked police officials to remain alert on the issue.

"I must tell you repeatedly to keep a close vigil in your locality, specially on any outsider or stranger. If you see anything odd, draw the attention of the police immediately," Banerjee said.

The Trinamool Congress supremo cautioned people not to fall into any trap of provocation or false campaign that might invite bitterness and enmity among people.

Attacking the BJP, she said, "There is a government at the Centre that is more busy in giving lectures than doing works to benefit the people."

"The BJP is also in the habit of engineering riots or a similar situation in a peaceful state where the party does not have base," Banerjee alleged.

The chief minister also criticised the erstwhile Left Front Government for allegedly leaving the state debt-trapped.

Announcing a number of development programmes for the Sundarbans, she said a new district would soon be created bifurcating the existing South 24-Parganas district.

Elaborating various development programmes undertaken by her government in the state, Banerjee said, "Our government has not done anything which might hurt people belonging to any particular religion, caste or creed."

Banerjee also asked her party workers and leaders to work together forgetting differences among themselves.

New Delhi, Feb 27: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday attacked the government over the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge S Muralidhar, saying the Centre's attempts to "muzzle" justice and "break people's faith in an upright judiciary are deplorable".

Delhi HC Judge S Muralidhar was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, days after the Supreme Court collegium made the recommendation.

"The midnight transfer of Justice Muralidhar isn't shocking given the current dispensation, but it is certainly sad & shameful," Priyanka Gandhi tweeted. "Millions of Indians have faith in a resilient & upright judiciary, the government’s attempts to muzzle justice & break their faith are deplorable," she said.

The judge was hearing the Delhi violence case and the late evening notification came on the day when a bench headed by him expressed "anguish" over the Delhi Police's failure to register FIRs against alleged hate speeches by three BJP leaders.

Jaipur, July 13: Amid deepening political crisis in Rajasthan, a crucial meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will be held at the chief minister's residence here on Monday.

The Congress has issued a whip to all party legislators mandating their presence during the meeting which will be convened at 10.30 am by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot has made it clear that he is not going to attend the meeting.

In a statement issued on Sunday night, Pilot had claimed that the Ashok Gehlot government was in minority and more than 30 Congress and some independent legislators have pledged support to him.

By doing so, he has openly displayed rebellion against the leadership of Gehlot.

However, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Avinash Pande has said that 109 MLAs have expressed confidence in the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in the state and have signed a letter in support.

Pande said a whip had been issued asking all the MLAs to attend the CLP meeting and that action will be taken against those who skip it.

In the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, the Congress has 107 MLAs and the BJP 72.

The Congress has the support of 10 out of 13 independents, and other party MLAs like Rashtriya Lok Dal (1), which is its ally. The Congress also considers Bhartiya Tribal Party (2) and CPI(M) (2) MLAs as their supporters.

BJP ally Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) has three MLAs in the assembly.
