Man asks vendor’s name, then shoots at him saying ‘you should be in Pakistan’

Patna, May 28: A Muslim hawker from Begusarai has alleged that a youth asked him his name and then shot at him, saying that he “should be in Pakistan”.

Police have, however, said the complainant, Mohammed Qasim, has not mentioned any “provocative remark” in his statement to the police and that he was shot at following an argument during bargaining. Police said a case has been lodged against the accused, identified as local youth Rajiv Yadav, on attempt to murder charge and under provisions of the Arms Act.

A video of an injured Qasim went viral after the incident on May 21. The video shows Qasim telling a local reporter that an inebriated Yadav approached him and asked him his name. “When I said I am Mohammed Qasim, he abused me and said, ‘tumko to Pakistan me hona chahiye (you should have been in Pakistan)’ and fired at me,” he alleged.

Qasim said nobody came to help him as Yadav held a pistol. He has been shot in the waist and on his back and is recovering at a government hospital where doctors said he was out of danger. Qasim, who sells items of daily use such as soaps and utensils at a market near the block town of Cheria Bariarpur, also alleged that the local sarpanch did not help him.

Begusarai SP Awkash Kumar said that the local police have lodged a case against Rajiv Yadav for attempt to murder and also under provisions of Arms Act. “Our investigation shows Yadav shot at Qasim after an argument during bargaining for some goods,” he claimed.

Asked about the video that gone viral, the SP said, “In his written statement to police, Yadav only mentioned about being shot at after an argument. There is no mention of any such thing that he is seen saying in the video.”

The SP said that the police were conducting raids to arrest Yadav and added that attempts are being made to sensationalise the matter.

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday opined that there is no other option left but to resort to 'Jail Bharo' agitation to expose the ruling BJP government's indulge in 'Corona Corruption' which runs into more than Rs 2000 crore.

Siddaramaiah said that according to a submission to the Karnataka High Court the government has submitted that it has incurred Rs 3,392 crore expenditure for Corona in the State so far. While the market price for equipment purchased will not exceed Rs 1163 crore and it clearly shows that the corruption is to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore.

Siddaramaiah speaking to a private TV channel here on Friday said the chief minister B S Yediyurappa-led State government should come out with a White Paper on the money spent for purchases made facilities provided to patients. 

According to submission to the Court, the Government has purchased 1000 Ventilators by paying Rs 120 crore, while the market price is Rs 40 crores at Rs 4 lakh for each Ventilator. Why is Rs 120 crore more paid, does it not lead to doubt the government's claim. For purchase of kits, mask, gloves etc. it amounted to Rs 1,500 crores but paid by the government was Rs 9,000 crore."

Mangaluru, May 19: In a bizarre incident which exposes the publicity craze of “philanthropists”, members of a city-based organisation returned without disturbing grocery kits after villagers refused to be photographed while receiving them. 

The incident took place at Mukrampady village in Puttur a few days ago. According to sources, a team belonging to an organisation from Mangaluru had visited the village with a letter from their organisation, to distribute grocery kits to families near mosques in the month of Ramadan. 

The team members reportedly insisted the beneficiaries to pose for pictures with the team near a mosque while being given the food kit. The villagers refused to fulfil their wish.

The organisation members then left the place without handing over the Ramadan kits, sources said.

Mangaluru, Apr 20: As Wenlock hospital has been converted into corona hospital, all the heads of private medical college hospitals have been instructed to treat Wenlock Hospital's out patients and in patients at a government hospital fare or at the charges of Wenlock Hospital, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Sunday.

Treatment is also been given at Bijai, Yekkur, Kulur, Jeppu, Surathkal, Kulai, Padil, Shaktinagar, Bengre and Bunder Primary Health Centers. Patients with MLC (Medico Legal Case) or Police Case may seek treatment at a private medical college or city primary center.

Some private hospitals have already agreed to provide free dialysis services, as requested by the government.
