The suspect, Manjunath, lost control of his motorcycle as he rode it recklessly. The two-wheeler skidded off and he fell down. Not wearing a helmet proved fatal as his head banged against a big stone lying on the roadside. He died from grievous head injuries. The accident occurred in Ramesh Nagar, HAL, in eastern Bengaluru around noon on Saturday.

It took the police a while to figure out why Manjunath rode the two-wheeler so recklessly. They learnt that the deceased was none other than a man who was on the run after brutally stabbing his live-in partner in Bhairaweshwara Nagar just an hour before the accident.

Manjunath had picked a fight with his lover, Aruna (40), suspecting that she was having an affair. He went mad, picked a dagger and stabbed her in the face, neck, abdomen and back. Aruna’s cries drew neighbours and forced Manjunath to flee. The neighbours took her to hospital and called the police. Just an hour later, Manjunath met with the deadly accident.

Manjunath had first met Aruna about two years ago. He was single while she had separated from her husband. She had two children but they lived separately. Manjunath and Aruna started dating. Sometime later, Manjunath rented a house in Bhairaweshwara Nagar for Aruna. While he lived in Hoskote to run a gambling den, he visited her often at night and provided for her. Aruna didn’t work as Manjunath wanted her to stay at home.

Their relationship became strained recently as Manjunath suspected that Aruna was having an affair.

They often fought over petty issues. One such fight ended their turbulent liaison.

Palghar, Mar 7: Police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating several shopkeepers in Maharashtra's Thane, Pune and Nashik by making phone calls in a woman's voice, police said on Friday.

The accused, Shashikant Ambekar (42), a resident of Palghar, was arrested in the last week of February, they said.
