Mysuru, Oct 18: ATMs dispensing damaged notes has become very common post demonetisation across India. A resident of Mysuru received damaged notes worth Rs 7,500 when he tried to withdraw money from an ATM in Mysuru.
Raju Rathnakar was shocked to get mutilated and coloured notes when he withdrew Rs 18,000 from an SBI ATM at Vidyaranyapuram in the city. He claimed 15 currency notes of Rs 500 denominations were damaged.
Rathnakar immediately brought it to the notice of manager of SBI Vidyaranyapuram branch. Branch manager Sree Chaithanya told media, "Several damaged notes were found from the ATM machine. We can't take responsibility for this mistake as the main branch of SBI and CMS, a private security company, who loads money into ATMs every day, are responsible for this."
"We know Raju Rathnakar very well as he is an account holder in our branch. We are trying to help him out in exchanging the damaged notes with the new one. This is not the first time that we are noticing incidents like this.”
“Customers have complained about getting damaged notes earlier as well. We have already brought it to the notice of SBI main branch, but still no proper measures were taken by them," he added. "We suspect foul play by some employees of the private security company," the manager alleged.
