Man held for blackmailing job aspirant girls after ‘video interview’

Bengaluru, Mar 29: A 36-year-old man, who posed as a client relationship manager of an international airline and blackmailed aspiring flight attendants, was arrested by cybercrime police here on Tuesday. During video interviews, he would force women to indulge in sex chats with him.

Deepuraj, who has several aliases like Dr Harikrishnan, Dr Rajesh Panikar, Rakesh Sharma and Rakesh Nayar, is a resident of Thoppinagar in Thiruvananthapuram. He worked as a manager at Hotel Aroma Classic Days, Thiruvananthapuram. He was arrested following a complaint by a victim in Bengaluru.

Preliminary probe revealed that Deepuraj would trawl job portals and professional networking sites to access contact details of women who aspired to work for international airlines as client relationship managers. He posed as vice-president (corporate HR) and reached out to aspirants, stating they had been shortlisted by an international carrier for a five-round interview which included two rounds of video-based physical examination and a fitness test.

During the video call, he reportedly told the women to pose in different angles and video-recorded the interview. Subsequently, he would get in touch with the aspirant and coerce her to have a sex chat with him. If she refused, he would blackmail her by threatening to upload her video online.

Cops said he targeted women job-seekers from other fields too. “Prima facie, his motive seems to be voyeuristic pleasure. We are yet to ascertain how many girls he has conned and if there’s any financial angle,” a police officer said on Wednesday. He was produced before the magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

Pro-CAA arsonists burn down house of their own pro-CAA BJP leader in Delhi. Reason: He’s a Muslim!

New Delhi, Mar 2: The bloodthirsty arsonists allegedly hired by pro-CAA politicians in the capital of India to target Muslims, did not spare even the house of a Muslim leader of BJP.

Akhtar Raza, the BJP’s minority cell vice-president for the Delhi Northeast district, is now not in a position to share his pain with anyone.

Even the police hadn’t come to his rescue, when the mob raising “Jai Sri Ram” slogans burnt down his house at Bhagirathi Vihar Nalla Road in northeast Delhi last week.

“They were chanting slogans. Around 7pm, they started throwing stones at us. I called for police help. But the police asked me to leave. We managed to flee before they burnt my house and destroyed everything,” Raza, who returned today to witness the destruction, told media persons.

“Those who attacked us were not locals. They were outsiders. They managed to identify and burn down all the 19 houses belonging to Muslims in this lane,” Raza said.

Apart from all the belongings in the house of Raza, the arsonists also have burnt down six vehicles belonging to his family.

Raza is sad that no one from BJP contacted him after the violence even though he has been serving the party and promoting its ideology for past five years. “No party leader contacted me. There was no phone call. There was no relief or special treatment or anything,” Raza said.

Interestingly, Raza is still indentifies himself as a BJP leader. “I belonged to BJP. I may continue in the party,” he said.

The locality remained tense on Sunday too. On Monday, several groups distributed relief materials among people who had queued up to collect them. In front of Raza’s house is a lane from which several bodies of innocent Muslims have been recovered.

Mangaluru: Second arrest in a week over social media post

Mangaluru, Jan 3: Mangaluru police arrested another person on charge of spreading communal hatred through messages. The accused have been identified as Abubakkar Siddique (48).

"One Abubakkar Siddique has been arrested in connection with a case for spreading communal hatred through inciting messages," said Dr PS Harsha, commissioner of police, Mangaluru.

On December 31, Police have arrested one person, Moideen Hameez, on charge of spreading communal hatred through social media.

The Mangaluru city police on Monday served notices to a few persons for posting inflammatory messages on social media.

The Cyber Crime police have summoned the accused persons to appear before it on January 2.

"Action against miscreants spreading communal hatred on social media underway in a major way. A dedicated team of cyber experts is keeping a hawk's eye on anyone fomenting communal disharmony anywhere on the internet," Harsha said in another tweet.

Dropping Tipu Sultan from Class 7 textbook is a communally motivated move: SDPI

Mangaluru, July 30: The Social Democratic Party of India has condemned the move by the state government to drop a lesson on legendary Mysuru rulers Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan from the class 7 textbook.

The Department of Public Instruction has omitted the chapter from the textbooks of Class 7 in their attempt to reduce syllabus for state board schools by 30 per cent.

The department, however, has decided to retain similar chapters on Tipu Sultan in 6th and 10th Classes, though the syllabus in text books for all classes from 1 to 10th has been trimmed.

In a media release statement, SDPI State President Ilyas Mohammed Thumbe termed the move as communally motivated. “By dropping the lesson, the BJP-led government is engaged in saffronisation of education,” he alleged.

He said that Tipu was the most prominent freedom fighter, who had given priority to irrigation, rocket technology and harmony. The BJP government is also planning to scrap lessons on the Constitution, secularism and democracy. By twisting history, the BJP is trying to mislead the younger generation, he added.
