Man jailed for cheating woman

Mangaluru, Feb 20: Sixth Additional District and Sessions Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy on Monday sentenced Satisha, a resident of Moodbidri, to 55 days of rigorous imprisonment on finding him guilty of cheating a woman. 

According to the charge-sheet filed by Moodbidri police, Satisha, a married man, had sex with a 25-year-old woman after promising her that he would marry her. When she realised Satisha was already married, the woman filed a complaint with the police in 2015 that led to his arrest.

The judge on Monday sentenced Satisha to 55 days of imprisonment and imposed Rs. 10,000 fine for the offence under Section 417 of the Indian Penal Code. 

Out of the fine amount, the woman will receive Rs. 5,000 as compensation under Section 357 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code. Further, the judge directed Satisha to pay the victim a compensation of Rs. 15,000.

Mangaluru, June 14: The management of Barakah International School and College has announced to waive off 33% of tuition fee in order to lessen the burden on parents who are undergoing financial crisis due to covid lockdown. 

This decision was taken after a series of virtual meetings with the Managing Director, Academic Director, Principal, Manager and PRO.

“While the school needs to continue to meet all the commitments and responsibilities towards the staff salaries, software, networking, etc, we fully understand that in the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, job loss, reduction in salaries, general hardships of the self-employed businesses and the slowdown in the economy,” sated a release issued by the school.

“We would support our parent fraternity pro-actively and at the same time continue to meet the high-quality standards of our teaching- learning process and infrastructure so it has been decided that 1/3 of the tuition fee to be waived off for 2020-21,” the release said.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Popular Kannada comedy actor Prakash, popularly known as Bullet Prakash in the film industry, died due to multi-organ failure at a private hospital in the City on Monday.

He was 44.

He is survived by wife, one son and a daughter.

Mumbai, Jun 15: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved Apoorva Diagnostic and Healthcare (ADHC) located at Bhaktivedanta Hospital, Mira Road to test suspected coronavirus infections in the region. The lab is equipped to process 500 tests on a per day basis and can be scaled up to 1000 and follows the pricing as per ICMR guidelines. ADHC will be closely working with local hospitals and Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to test suspected coronavirus infections in the region.

The municipal corporations who will benefit from this facility would be Palghar, Virar Vasai and Mira Bhayander. The run time for the patients’ blood collection samples will reduce significantly.  The corporation earlier is known for becoming the first civic body to rope in private hospitals for coronavirus testing.

ADHC is the only lab operational for 24/7 thus supporting all the hospital and nursing homes in the Western region of Mumbai. ADHC is the only lab in this region equipped with fully automated frozen section, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and complete Oncopathology services. Laboratory maintains the highest level of international standards and is the only lab in the state to introduce Artificial Intelligence in clinical pathology. One of the other unique feature of the lab is that it has the DNA film array technology for infectious panels and fully automated Microbiology lab which results in fast turnaround time to reduce hospitalization of the patient which helps reduce antibiotics harassment.
