Beijing, Sep 12: A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for forming online discussion groups to teach Quran in China's volatile Xinjiang province.

Huang Shike was found guilty of illegally using information on the internet, according to the verdict released by the Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture branch court of Higher People's Court of Xinjiang.

"Huang, by preaching and teaching the Quran at non- religious venues, disturbed the administrative order of normal religious activities, severely violated China's laws on regulating religious affairs and greatly harmed society," , state-run Global Times quoted the verdict as saying.

Huang, a member of the Hui ethnic minority, established a social media group in June 2016, and taught its roughly 100 members, mostly his friends and family members, how to pray.

China has over 21 million Muslims of Uygur and Hui ethnic communities. The Hui people are more concentrated in northwestern China in Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang.

To better regulate social media groups, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) recently issued a new regulation which will take effect on October 8.

Group creators should regulate the behaviour of members as well as posts in groups in accordance with the law, user agreements and platform conventions, according to the regulation.

China blames separatist East Turkistan Islamic Movement, (ETIM) for the recurring attacks and imposed several measures including restricting wearing veils by Muslim women.

Feb 1: The Congress on Saturday expressed hope that the Union Budget would provide relief to the salaried class through tax cuts and invest in rural India besides providing a healing touch to the common man and industry facing “hardship” since demonetisation.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the last budget led to crashing consumption levels, soaring unemployment and falling GDP. “Budget 2019= Consumption crashed, Unemployment soared, Farm distress surged, Incomes declined, Investments slumped, Public spending fell, GDP nose dived!,” Surjewala tweeted. “Yet, Modiji gave Corporate Tax Cuts of Rs 1,45,000 crore. Let Budget 2020 give tax cuts to Salaried Class and invest in Rural India,” he said

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hoped the budget fulfils expectations of the common people. “Budget 2020 is the time for NDA government to provide a healing touch to common people and industries facing hardships since noteban. Hope the budget fulfils expectations of common people and provide relief across sections,” Gehlot said.

New Delhi, Jan 22: The BJP on Wednesday cited statements of several opposition leaders to accuse them of "abusing" Hindus for their appeasement politics and referred to the Congress as "Muslim League Congress".

Seeking apologies from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said leaders of these parties have used the ongoing protests against the amended citizenship law to "abuse" Hindus.

Chavan has said in a public meeting that the Congress decided to join hands with the Shiv Sena to form government in Maharashtra as Muslims wanted the party to stop the BJP, Patra stated, claiming that it shows the opposition party has nothing to do with people belonging to other religions, including Hindus.

Patra also referred to a statement from an NCP leader to attack the opposition.

Asked about Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge's reported jibe at the RSS for its "non-participation" in the freedom movement, the BJP leader shot back, asking if parents of Sonia Gandhi, who is of Italian origin, had fought in India's independence struggle.

The Indian National Congress, he said referring to the opposition party's full name, should be called "Muslim League Congress".
