Man offered a ride, robbed of valuables in Hubballi

Hubballi, Jun 10: A holiday trip home for a man employed in Dubai turned into a nightmare when he was dropped by a gang which offered him a ride to Gadag on Saturday night. The victim Ajith Singh was robbed of Rs 55,000 cash, gold chain, laptop, an iPhone and other valuables worth Rs 1.50 lakh.

Ajith landed in Mumbai on Friday and reached Hubballi the next day. On Saturday night, he waited to board a bus. However, he did not find any bus to Gadag after a long wait.

Meanwhile, a car with passengers arrived at the spot. The driver was looking for more passengers and an unsuspecting Ajith boarded the car, unaware of what lay in store. Ajith discovered that the driver and fellow passengers were robbers only after reaching Gadag Road on the city outskirts.

The miscreants started thrashing Ajith and snatched away valuables from him. Keshwapur police have registered a case in this regard.

Karwar: The number of Covid-19 patients in Uttara Kannada district has gone up to 39 with seven more persons from Bhatkal testing positive for the virus on Sunday.

These seven persons include five men and two women. Among them, the youngest is 15 years and the eldest is 60 years. Rest of the patients are 50, 21, 16, 42, and 31 years old, a health bulletin said. All the new seven cases are contacts of the eight persons who were found positive on Saturday.

Of the new cases, one is an auto-rickshaw driver who had reportedly transported one of the patients. Now the administration is collecting the details of the driver’s journeys and the persons who had travelled in his auto-rickshaw. It is said that some of these persons who were confirmed positive on Sunday had travelled to Udupi and moved around in Bhatkal town to buy medicine.

The pressure on the administration is increasing with new positive cases being detected in Bhatkal town every day. After the first 11 cases, there were no new cases for 20 days. However, since Friday, there is sudden spike in the number of new cases in Bhatkal town.

Mangaluru, Mar 30: Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Natekal, has started online tele-consultation service in the constituent Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre amid fear of corona spread.
 
A statement issued here on Monday said, under this service people can contact the doctors sitting in their home. The doctors will give tele-consultation and medical advice for their health problems through WhatsApp. As per the Kanachur Hospital announcement for this purpose the specialist doctors of nine departments will give their tele-consultation from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs.
 
The people who are not having the social media service (WhatsApp) from rural areas they can directly contact the concerned department specialists over phone by informing the disease details and obtain advises from the doctors through the hospital landline number 0824-2888000.

Belagavi, 12: Even though the investigation into the four abandoned country pistols that were recovered by the Karnataka police on the outskirts of Waghawade village in Belagavi taluk last weekend did not make any headway, the police are verifying if the weapons had been used by the assassin of Gauri Lankesh for training.

Four country pistols were found abandoned on the outskirts of Waghawade on Sunday. Locals informed that the police had taken the weapons for inspection.

Prima facie it appeared that the weapons were rusted and had not been used for long. Cases had been registered against unidentified persons and investigations were in progress.

After reports that the weapons could have been used for training by the assassin of Gauri Lankesh in the forests in Khanapur, a few kilometres away from the spot wherein they were found, police have been looking into this angle too.

Sources said the condition of the weapons indicated that they have not been used for decades but to allay doubt all aspects were being looked into.
