Man questioned in murder case found dead

Kanhangad, Jan 19: A man who was summoned by the Hosdurg police here in connection with strangulating a 65-year-old housewife and robbing her of 9.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments was found dead hanging here on Thursday.

Kunhikkannan, 55, of Velaswaram who was running an eatery close to the residence of the woman, K. Janaki, was found dead on his residential premises, Kanhangad sub-inspector A. Santhoshkumar said.

The police had summoned a few suspects in connection with the murder. Unidentified miscreants had sped away with gold ornaments and Rs. 38,000 in cash from the house after strangulating the woman. Her elderly husband was asleep inside the house at the time of the crime.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

Tumakuru, Jun 20: An SSLC student of Siddaganga Mutt here was admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital on Saturday after he showed Covid-19 symptoms.

Health officials said that the student, a native of the Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, had returned to the Mutt via Raichur on June 15 for writing the SSLC examination scheduled to begin on June 25.

After he was admitted to the hospital the Health Department Officials kept three of his roommates under quarantine. Throat swab sample of the student has also been sent for testing.

Mandya, Jul 6: With a journalist from Srirangapatna testing positive for Covid-19, the Mandya District Journalists Association was sealed as a precautionary measure.

Association President K C Manjunath said on Monday that as the reporter has tested positive for Covid-19, it was voluntarily decided to seal down the premises for another month.
