Man rapes minor girl, wife gets them married to save him from punishment; both arrested

Kolar, Mar 13: Police have arrested a married couple under provisions of the Child Marriage Act, Pocso Act and Protection of Civil Rights Act in connection with the rape of a minor Dalit girl and her forced marriage at Hunasikote in Malur taluk of Kolar district.

The arrested are Gangaraju, 32, of Kumbara caste and from Dodda Kadathuru village, and his wife Pallavi, a 23-year-old Dalit woman, who had deserted her first husband. They got married a couple of months ago and were living at Hunasikote, near Tekal.

According to police, a 13-year-old cousin of Pallavi arrived at their house last week and was staying with them. Gangaraju allegedly raped her and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone. The news, however, spread in the village and a complaint reached the child helpline in Malur.

Childline officials alerted police who questioned the girl, who said no such incident had taken place. Fearing trouble, Pallavi got her married to Gangaraju. When another complaint was lodged with the child's helpline, police, accompanied by a counsellor and legal adviser, spoke to the girl again.

This time, she narrated the entire incident and based on her father's complaint, both Gangaraju and Pallavi were arrested.

Bengaluru, May 17: Karnataka Government on Sunday decided to appoint Administrative Committees, to over 6000 Panchayat Bodies, in the state, who’s five-year term would comes to an end this month.

Speaking to the media here, the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Minister, K S Eshwarappa informed that the state cabinet met recently had favored to appoint committees which would replace the elected bodies.

Informing that there is provision in the Panchayath Raj Act to appoint the committees, he said that the concerned Deputy Commissioners of the district, would appoint the members, to the committee, who were eligible to be nominated to the committees.

Bengaluru, Jul 13:  Karnataka Deputy chief minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Monday urged chief minister BS Yediyurappa to cancel the license of private hospitals and private medical colleges which did not hand over their 50 per cent beds, to the government, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister's Office said.

On June 26, the Karnataka government reserved about 50 per cent for COVID-19 patients in some private hospitals in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the day, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that the state government should provide vitamin C drug, Ayush Ministry-certified immunity boosters and sanitisers to every household in the wake of the coronavirus spread.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Karnataka has recorded 38,843 cases of COVID-19 to date.

Hassan, Feb 26: A 35-year-old poachers died on the spot by his fellow man accidentally, mistaking him as animal at Yedikumari Kaginahere forest areas near Sakaleshpura in the district early hours Tuesday, police sources said.

The deceased has been identified as Harish.

The incident happened when ten poachers went hunting for wild animals in the Yedikumari Kaginahare forest areas.
