Man sets lover on fire, he lands in hospital as she holds on to him

Ulhasnagar, Mar 22: A 30-year-old woman was set ablaze allegedly by her lover at a garment store in Ulhasnagar on Tuesday where the two worked. While Parvati Mehetre died, her lover, Narasimha Talari (40), has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition after suffering 80% burn injuries.

fireOn Tuesday afternoon, Mehetre and Talari were the only two present at the shop located in Sona Market. "The man said that they got into an argument but we do not know the details yet," said a police officer. "Talari says he set her on fire. Mehetre then caught hold of Talari, causing him to suffer burn injuries," said the police officer.

A few people who saw smoke billowing from the store, called the fire brigade. Firemen found Mehetre's body and Talari lying injured. Senior inspector Shakil Shaikh said that the two who were in a relationship and probably had a dispute.

The police said that Talari had planned to kill Mehetre as he had smuggled petrol to the shop. An accidental death report has been filed for now.

New Delhi, May 9: A 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at the AIIMS here after her mother died of cancer at the hospital, police said on Saturday.

She was reported missing after her mother passed away on Wednesday and her body was found near the new private ward block of the hospital on Saturday, they said, adding that she fell to her death from a building.

"Her mother was a cancer patient. She was being treated at the hospital and had died during treatment on Wednesday," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said.

Her father was busy in the formalities when she left the area. She was reported missing since Wednesday. The family hails from Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said.

Hospital staff noticed the body and informed the police. The block was closed due to which nobody found out about it earlier, police said.

Police said she had called her friends and told them that she was going to kill herself. The body has been recovered and an inquest proceeding is underway.

Thane, Mar 22: Eight men were arrested at Kalyan in the district on Sunday as they were found playing cricket during the 'Janata curfew' being observed to check the spread of coronavirus, police said.

They were playing cricket at Kala Talao Maidan in the afternoon, police said.

Police also detained a boy in this connection, an official said.

"Action was taken against them for defying the prohibitory orders issued by the Thane Police Commissionerate.

The Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station registered an offence against the accused under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 290 (public nuisance).

They were also booked under the Maharashtra Police Act as well as the National Disaster Act 2005, the official said.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.
