Man stabs friend, his brother for refusing a hug over bad breath

Bengaluru, Jul 3: A gentleman, who refused to hug his friend due to latter’s bad breath was brutally stabbed by him in a fit of rage in Mavalli near Kalasipalyam in Karnataka’s capital. The man’s younger brother, who rushed to his help, too was attacked by the friend.

Shoaib Pasha, 23 and Shahid Pasha, 21, residents of Wilson Garden, were treated at a private hospital and are out of danger.

The local police said they arrested Nabi alias Balli, a resident of Siddapura and an employee at an automobile accessories shop, for stabbing the brothers. A case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of IPC has been registered against the accused.

The incident took place around 11.45pm when Shoaib and Nabi chanced upon each other. Nabi allegedly tried to hug Shoaib, who pushed him away citing his bad breath. This led to a heated argument between the two and Nabi first abused him and then took out a knife and stabbed Shoaib in the stomach.

According to reports, Shoaib called his brother Shahid for help, who reached the spot within a few minutes but Nabi stabbed Shahid too before fleeing the spot.

Special flight under VBM brings nearly 180 people from Qatar to Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 19: A repatriation flight from Doha brought 178 passengers to Mangaluru today. This is the first flight operated from Qatar to Mangaluru under the Vande Bharat Mission.

The Air India Express flight, which took off from Hamad International Airport in Doha at 12 noon (Qatar time) landed at Mangaluru International Airport around 6.30 pm IST.

Indian embassy had prepared the list of passengers to be flown in the flight. Stranded people who were in need of emergency repatriation such as pregnant women, senior citizens and those in need of emergency medical treatment were given priority while finalising the list of passengers.

Kannadiga organisations in Qatar such as Karnataka Sangha, Tulu Kuta Qatar, Karnataka Muslim Welfare Association, Mangalore Cricket Club, Bunts Qatar, Mangalore Cultural Association, South Canara Muslim Welfare Association, Qatar Billawas had been striving for the repatriation of stranded Kannadigas by exerting pressure on the elected representatives to operate flights.

Kannadigas in Qatar have thanked former Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Jayaprakash Hegde for persuading the authorities concerned to facilitate the repatriation.

Congress creating confusion among Muslim over CAA, claims BSY

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Karnataka to decide on city corporation election soon

Belagavi, Mar 7: Karnataka Urban Development Minister B A Basavaraj on Saturday said that government would a take decision very soon regarding conducting city corporations election in the state.

Speaking with the media after review meeting at Belagavi city corporation (BCC) here he further said that delimitation exercise of the wards has to be done followed by reservations.

The minister stated that discussions would be held with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and would arrive at a decision to conduct the election in about a month’s time.
