Mangaluru, Oct 31: The monthly meeting of the council of Mangaluru City Corporation took an ugly turn on Tuesday with some councillors of the Opposition BJP resorting to personal attack against Mayor Kavitha Sanil and trying to assault Congress corporator A C Vinayaraj.

Unable to control her emotions, the Mayor broke down and adjourned the House for sometime when BJD corporators began to level allegations against her and demanded her resignation over allegations of assault on a woman.

The commotion continued after the House was re-convened with the Opposition members not allowing the Mayor to speak and the ruling members shouting against the BJP.

The Mayor urged the BJP corporators to stop lying and speak only the truth. She also invited them to repeat allegations at Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple.

"Give me an opportunity to clarify on the allegations you make against me - at least as mother of a girl. Please do not politicize personal issues. I have neither assaulted security guard's wife nor pulled her child. I am ready to deny your (BJP's) allegations in front of the deity at Kateel Temple. You (BJP members) also should repeat the allegations against me in front of the deity. Everything is on record and I have the CCTV footages," Mayor said.

BJP corporators led by opposition leader Roopa D Bangera, Ganesh Hosabettu, Premanand Shetty and others shouted slogans against mayor and demanded her resignation.

It may be recalled that a woman from Bagalkot had complained at the Mangaluru Women Police Station alleging that the mayor has assaulted the latter and pulled away her child on October 18. Meanwhile, Kavitha too had filed a counter complaint against the woman and her husband at Barke police station for threatening her nine year old daughter.
