Mangaluru, Feb 3: A portrait of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at an under-construction Indira Canteen at Suratkal in Mangaluru taluk was smeared with black ink by unidentified miscreants.
The portrait is put up outside the outlet. The police suspect that miscreants may have committed the act in the wee hours on Saturday.
Indira Canteen is a flagship programme of Karnataka government, which will provide food at subsidised rates to the people, working class in particular.
Mangaluru, Feb 28: Two labourers lost their lives as they were buried alive in a landslip at Karangalpady Junction near Bunts Hostel in the city today.
The landslip occurred when a compound wall collapsed burying at least five persons under the debris. It is feared that three people are still under the debris.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Masood (20) from West Bengal and Bhimappa (25) from Bagalkote.
Local police and fire fighters are carrying out rescue operation.
Bengaluru, Apr 5: Fake news spreads faster and more easily nowadays through the internet, social media and instant messaging and such news about the COVID-19 pandemic have been labeled a dangerous “infodemic”.
These messages may contain useless, incorrect or even harmful information and advice, which can hamper the public health response and add to social disorder and division.
Asking people to avoid fake news on COVID-19, Hemant Nimbalkar IPS, IGP and Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration), shared a photo on his Twitter page and wrote, “One Mask For Ear Too"
Shivamogga, Feb 24: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday said that he has been invited at the banquet hosted for US President Donald Trump at Rashtrapathi Bhavan on Tuesday, but, he is yet to decide on his presence.
“I have been invited, but I have various engagements and work, let’s see. I have not yet decided on what to do. It is true that I got the invitation,” he told reporters here.
"President of a powerful and rich country like United States of America visiting India is not a normal thing. He (Trump) has said that he personally shares good relationship with Prime Minister Modi and has confidence in him…let’s wait and see", Mr Yediyurappa said in reply to a question.
