Mangaluru, Oct 8: A high school student attempted suicide by jumping off the fourth floor at Adumaroli area in the city around 5.45pm on Saturday.
Police said the Class 9 boy left a suicide note hinting at his inability to score marks in exams.
The boy also reportedly indicated he was under the influence of the Blue Whale challenge but police are yet to verify it. According to doctors, his condition is critical. He is recuperating in the ICU at AJ Hospital here.
The boy, a resident of Adumaroli and aged about 15 years, is a student of an English-medium school in the city. As soon as he fell down, other residents of the apartment rushed to his help and shifted him to hospital.
According to sources, due to the fall, the boy received multiple injuries and fractured both legs and his left hand. He also sustained internal injuries. The suicide note was found on the terrace of the building.
Police are checking his mobile phone to verify the reason for the attempted suicide. "We're looking into this angle as there were rumours about it," a senior police officer said. A case was registered at Kankanady Town police station.
