Mangalore International Chess: Thipsay held to a draw by A P player

Mangalore, July 18: Ten players are in joint lead with four points at the end of the fourth round on the third day of 5th Indian Overseas Bank Mangalore FIDE rated open chess tournament 2011 here on Monday.

Defending champion GM Thipsay was held to a draw by C R G Krishna of AP in 67 moves. In the fianchetto variation of the Kings Indian game the grandmaster held some initiative in the middle game, the minor piece endgame was insufficient to score over.

Stany of Karnataka won convincingly against Chinmay Kulkarni of Maharashtra in 39 moves from white side of the Sicilian. IM Swapnil Dhopade lost to Maheswaran of TN after blundering a pawn in 55th move of the bishop endgame. GM Laxman continued his bad form losing to 11 year old Rathanvel of TN in 90 moves. The youngster conducted the endgame part to win a bishop for the pawn and converted in successfully.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: A 54-year-old man committed suicide at his home, after he learned that he was tested positive for Covid-19, at Devasandra, in Sadashivanagar.

The deceased, Shivamahadeva, ran a cot shop in Yeshwantpur along with his brother. The police said that he was single and was living with his elder brother and his family.

In another incident, a 50-year-old man, committed suicide fearing Covid-19 and the stigma related to the illness.

The deceased has been identified as Nagaraju, a resident of Doddaballapura and a native of Hesaraghatta, and his body was found at the Hesaraghatta lake.

The police said that during the investigation it was found that the neighbours had accused Nagaraju of spreading the infection.

New Delhi, Feb 12: Senior Karnataka BJP leader Umesh Katti, who has been left out of the latest cabinet expansion, on Wednesday met party president Jagat Prakash Nadda over the issue.

On Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa allotted portfolios to 10 newly inducted ministers. The leader was sulking after he was left out from the cabinet.

According to sources, Katti urged JP Nadda to consider his seniority in the party and give him a ministerial berth.

Earlier, Yeddyurappa had announced that Umesh Katti would be given a place in the state cabinet, but his name was dropped from the list of ministers at the last moment.

According to sources, Umesh Katti also urged Nadda for a Rajya Sabha berth for his brother Ramesh Katti.

Dharward, Jul 25: In a shocking incident, a man reportedly killed his wife and daughter by feeding them poison and ended his life by hanging in his house. The incident took place in Dharwad on Saturday. 

The deceased have been identified as Mounesh Pattar (36), his wife Arpita (28) and their four-year-old daughter Sukruta. 

Mounesh was working in a private company in Dharwad and was depressed from the last one week fearing job loss. 

It was alleged that he might lose his job as the management decided to remove more than 40 employees due to covid -19 lockdown.

On Friday late night, he reportedly gave poison to his wife and daughter and later committed suicide by hanging self. The incident came to light on Saturday morning.

A case is registered at Sub Urban police station and further investigation is on.
