Mangalorean killed in Kadur road mishap

Mangalore, May 13: A Mangalorean was killed on spot in a ghastly road mishap occurred at Kadur in Chikmagalur district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Zubair Ahmed (47), a resident of Permude near Bajpe.

The incident took place when he was on his is way to Bangalore from Honnavar. A speeding LPG cylinder laden lorry which came from opposite direction rammed against his car while negotiating a curve at around 8:00 pm, sources said.

The impact of the accident was such that the car was reduced to a bundle of metals. While Zubai died on spot two other passengers in the car, who sustained serve injuries were taken to a private hospital in Shimoga.

Zubair Ahmed is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and a large number of relatives and friends.

Rs 26 lakhs worth gold seized at Mangaluru Airport, one held

Mangaluru, Feb 26: Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday arrested a man for trying to smuggle gold worth over Rs 26 lakh by concealing it in his rectum.

The accused has been identified as Moideen Arzan, a resident of Uppala, Kasaragod.

According to police, he arrived from Dubai by an Air India flight and was attempting to smuggle the gold which he had converted in the form of paste and concealed in rubber capsules inside his rectum.

Tricolour unfurled at 10,000 mosques across Kerala on R-Day

Kozhikode, Jan 26: The Indian national flag was unfurled at around 10,000 mosques and religious institutions across Kerala on the auspicious occasion of 71st Republic Day on Sunday.

"The national flag was unfurled at around 10,000 mosques across the state on this auspicious occasion as per the instruction of the Waqf Board," Secretary of the Kuttiady Juma Masjid Committee, K Basheer, told media here.

He said that the national flag was also unfurled at the Kuttiady Juma Masjid here as per the instructions.

"Constitution is under threat by the Citizenship Amendment Act, we also read the preamble of the Constitution in solidarity," Basheer said.

Meanwhile, a majestic event was held in the national capital on the occasion of Republic Day.

Offer prayers at home if some mosques can't follow covid guidelines: Mangaluru Qadhi

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Even as the mosques in Karnataka recieved green signal from state government to reopen for congregational prayers from June 8, a senior Islamic scholar in coastal Karnataka has encouraged Muslims to prefer to offer prayers at homes during covid times.

Twaqa Ahmed Al-Azhari, the Qadhi of Mangaluru, has welcomed the state government's decision to allow Muslims to offer congregational prayers including Jum'a prayers with certain precautions and conditions.

"Government has upheld our religions sentiments. All the mosques where congregational prayers will be held from June 8 should strictly follow all the guidelines issued by the government," he said.

He also suggested that if any mosque is not in a position to follow all the guidelines issued by the government then it should refrain from holding congregational prayers. "Muslims can continue offer Fard and Jumá prayers at homes as the cornavirus pandemic is still spreading in the region and across the world," he said.
