Mangalureans urged to help catch this Gujarati woman who abducted an activist’s daughter

Mangaluru, Nov 9: The police have urged the people in the coastal city to help them catch a 26-year-old woman, who allegedly abducted a 5-year-old girl from Gujarat.

Kinjal(5) daughter of a social activist in Gujarat’s Maninagar was allegedly kidnapped by her maid Rekha alias Shahnaz on October 14 from her residence.

According to police, the mobile phone of the alleged abductor was traced to Mangaluru a couple of days ago. Inspector Chethan Jadeja from Gujarat’s Ahmedabad told said that her mobile was last traced PVC Complex, Padukodi in Kavoor on Monday at 11 am.

Based on the information provided by Gujarat police, Kavoor police rushed to the spot and held investigations. However, they could not obtain any leads. By then, Rekha's mobile number had been switched off.

Prior to this, her mobile number was traced to Frazer Town, Bengaluru, and earlier at Hubballi, Sindagi in Vijayapura. He refused to divulge further details.

The police have asked the public to contact Kavoor police station at 0824 2220533 or inspector Jadeja at 9879324147 on spotting the victim and the accused. The police have announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to anyone who helps them crack the case.

Bengaluru, May 16: Health Minister B Sriramulu has sought the aid of Home department for curbing sex work in certain parts of the state - which continues unabated despite lockdown.

“It poses health risks to those involved. I request the department to ensure that the business is prohibited at such a time of crisis,” he stated in a letter to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.  

At the same time, in order to ensure the safety of these workers, Sriramulu has asked both the Health department and the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) to come up with a detailed report on rehabilitation of sex workers and transgenders.

The Health minister’s order was prompted by a letter by writer and activist Roopa Hassan. The writer, who was earlier member of a panel (led by actor-turned-politician Jayamala) on the study of issues faced by sex workers, had sought government’s intervention to stop condom distribution to registered sex workers and transgenders, as continuing work during pandemic was posing health risks to the community.

Bengaluru, Mar 16: Hundreds of people gathered to felicitate the newly appointed Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Monday.

"Everyone is a team, I'm not alone. We all are together and we will work together," Kumar had said after his appointment.

Shivakumar was appointed as the chief of Karnataka Congress last week on Wednesday.

Party leaders Eshwar Khandre, Satish Jarkiholi and Saleem Ahmed were appointed working presidents of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

Udupi, Jul 21: Udupi Court complex has been sealed down for two days for sanitisation after a judge tested positive for Covid-19, a source said on Tuesday.

The Covid cases in Udupi district which had reduced recently are once again seeing a spurt. On Monday, as many as 98 have tested positive taking the total cases in the district to 2,321.
