Mangaluru: 15 days on, abducted Katipalla youth Safwan remains untraced

Mangaluru, Oct 20: More than two weeks after the abduction of Safwan (24), a resident of 8th block in Chokkabettu, Katipalla in Mangaluru taluk, the police have failed to trace him.

Safwan was abducted by miscreants in broad daylight on October 5 in a vehicle bearing registration No KA 20 MA 2844.

A press release from the police said that five persons had taken Safwan away in a vehicle at about 6 pm on October 5.

Based on the information from an eye witness, Abdul Hameed, father of Safwan, had filed a complaint in Surathkal station on October 5.

The police have now released the photos of the abductors of Safwan— Samshuddin from Mukka, Safwan Hussain from Suratkal, Faizal alias Toppi Faizal and Shahil from Surathkal and Sufian from Ballari.

Safwan is of wheatish complexion with normal built, black hair with a mustache on his face. He can speak in Kannada, Tulu and Beary languages, police said.

People with any information about him or his abductors have been requested to inform Surathkal police station 0824-2220540 or DCPs 9480802304 or 9480802305 or control room - 0824-2220800.

Mangaluru, Jul 20:  Ananthapadmanabha temple at Kudupu on the outskirts of Mangaluru will be closed for devotees on the occasion of Nagara Panchami on July 25 due to Covid-19.

Ananthapadmanabha temple at Kudupu is one of the famous temples in Dakshina Kannada dedicated to Naga (Serpent God) where Nagara Panchami is celebrated in a grand way.  The temple committee said that "Nagara Panchami will be observed on July 25. To avoid large gatherings, the entry of devotees is banned. The devotees should not visit the temple, thereby extend cooperation with the temple committee."

On the day of Nagara Panchami, no sevas, theertha and prasadam will be distributed. There will be no mass feeding as well.

Mangaluru, May 8: Migrant workers, stranded in Karnataka due to lockdown, staged a protest on Friday at the Central Railway Station here, demanding to be sent back to their respective native places.

The workers demanded the state government to take measures and send them back to their homes.

Maintaining social distancing and covering their faces with masks, the workers were holding placards which read -- "We want to go home Jharkhand, We want justice and we want to go home."

They appealed to the state government to arrange trains and buses to ferry them to their native places and threatened to walk home if denied transport.

Several protests have erupted in different parts of the country, such as Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, as stranded labourers took to the roads demanding to be sent back home.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on May 1 had issued an order to extend the ongoing lockdown by two more weeks from May 4 with some relaxations.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Sauharda Forum in Moodbidri has placed a food-counter stand near Krishnakatte in Moodbidri here to feed the hungry during the lockdown.

Due to strict implementation of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, shops and hotels have remained closed since last one month posing a huge difficulty for many.

Stranded migrant labourers and others can collect water bottles, fruits, biscuits, and other eatables free of cost by the people at the stand.
