Mangaluru: 2 held for ‘terror’ Facebook post against MLA Mohiuddin Bava

Mangaluru, Nov 11: Two trouble mongers have been arrested by the Mangaluru city police for allegedly posting derogatory comment on Facebook and giving death threat to Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava.

Ashwath Kumar (27), an interior designer, resident of Kodialbail and Yatish A (28), an employee of a finance company and resident of Peruvai are the arrested.

Police said the residents’ association of Angaragundi in Baikampady had planned to hold a Tipu Jayanti on Thursday. The association had invited former Bajrang Dal convener Mahendra Kumar for the as guest. Harris, an office-bearer of the residents' association, had reportedly shared details of the event on his Facebook account four days ago.

On Thursday that Ashwath Kumar and Yatish criticised the association on the social media site for the holding the programme and calling Mahendra Kumar as guest. In one of their comment, arrested youths, referred to the Mangaluru North MLA as 'notorious' legislator and accused of him of having links with terrorist organizations, police said.

Based on the complaint of Harris, Panambur police arrested Kumar and Yatish for offence under the Information Technology Act and section 504 of the Indian Penal Code. The duo was produced before the court, which remanded them to a judicial custody.

Mangaluru, Jan 16: Following the widespread protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), former minister and MLA UT Khader on Thursday urged the Centre and State government to address the concerns of the people.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said there is widespread confusion among the public with regard to the implementation of the Act. People are reluctant to open their doors to Asha workers, out of fear that the NRC exercise is being implemented, said Khader.

He urged the chief minister and home minister to gain the trust of the people on the CAA issue.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A suspicious unattended laptop bag with the suspicion of containing “something harmful” was found abandoned at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday.

The bag was found kept in the rest area meant for the passengers outside the airport. According to reports, two men came in auto and left the bag near the ticket counter, which is near the VIP vehicles parking area.

The bag, which was lying unattended near the entrance of the airport was removed from the spot by the airport security personnel at 8.45 am.

Bomb detection squad personnel has rushed to the spot and shifted the bag to a safe zone, said Mangaluru Commissioner of Police P S Harsha.

Mangaluru, Apr 29: One person was arrested on charges of murdering a middle-aged couple on Wednesday in Yellinje near Kinnigoli.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of Mulky police.

Police said that the deceased were identified as Vincent D’Souza (50) and his wife Helina D’ Souza (45).

The arrested was identified as Alphonso (55). He will be sent to judicial custody, said police.
