Mangaluru: Another woman jumps off Netravati Bridge; rescued by fishermen

Mangaluru, Oct 16: A woman jumped off Netravati Bridge near Thokkottu today in an apparent suicide bid, but was rescued by the locals.

According to sources, today morning a middle aged jumped into the river even as vehicles moved on the bridge.

The local fishermen who saw the woman jumping into the river rushed with their boats and managed to rescue her. She was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The exact reason for the woman’s suicide bid is yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered at Kankanady police station.

Including Coffee King V G Siddhartha, around a dozen people have committed suicide at the same spot in last three months for various reasons.

Sedition charge: 3 Kashmiri students arrested in Karnataka sent to judicial custody

Hubli, Feb 17: A local court here on Monday sent three Kashmiri students who were arrested on charges of sedition to judicial custody till March 2.

They were arrested for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans and posting a video of the same on social media, told police.

All three were taken into custody by the police on Sunday night and were produced before a local court on Monday.

New ministers' portfolios allocation by Feb 8 says Yediyurappa

Bengaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that portfolios for the 10 new ministers who sworn in on Thursday will be allocated by February 8.

Speaking to media persons, he said that he will go to Delhi in the coming days and the date of his visit will be finalised soon.

He is expected to meet the high command again to finalise the list of BJP MLAs for three berths in the Cabinet.

NRI Habeeb Ur Rahiman Uppinangady conferred doctorate

Newsroom, Feb 10: Habeeb Ur Rahiman, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Kingdom University Bahrain, has been awarded doctorate from the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

He has completed his thesis Influence of Quality of Work Life, Ego Status and Job Attitude on Organisational Commitment and Productivity of Bank Employees under the guidance of Prof Rashmi Kodikal.

Habeeb Ur Rahiman is the son of Yusuf and Ayisha couple from Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district.

After obtaining his Master Degree (MBA, Finance) from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012, he had worked in Bearys First Grade College, Kundapura and P A College of Engineering, Mangaluru before migrating to Bahrain.
