Mangaluru: Beautician killed as tipper knocks down her scooter

Mangaluru, Nov 27: Negligence and recklessness of a tipper driver today claimed the life of a beautician who was raiding a two wheeler on Kuntikan road in the city. 

The victim has been identified as Priya Suvarna, 43, who was running a beauty parlour in Kavoor, here. 

It is learnt that a speeding tipper knocked Priya’s scooter down near BMS Hostel when she was returning to Kavoor after visiting Mangauru city. 

The intensity of the crash was such that she was thrown onto the road. Even though she was rushed to a hospital immediately, the doctors pronounced her dead.

She was also the treasurer of Mangalore Ladies Beauty Parlour Association and a member of Cauvery Lions Club.

Mangaluru, Jun 17: The first chartered flight repatriating Indians stranded at Kuwait for months landed at the international airport here.

The Jazeera Airways flight privately booked by the Keralites and coastal Kannadigas living in the Arab country had left sometime in the afternoon with 160 passengers on board.

The flight also carried the mortal remains of Sathish Kochu Shetty (45), who died in a fire tragedy at a refinery in Kuwait on June 14.

Udupi, May 4: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that mechanised boat fishing will be permitted in Udupi district in another two days.

He further said that the decision was taken after the district was declared as a Green Zone as no fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the district in the past several days.

The Deputy Commissioner told the media here that fishing will be permitted but social distancing has to be practised and only 30 boats will be permitted in a day.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.
