Mangaluru: Bizman Balachandra Kamath passes away

Mangaluru, Jan 11: City based businessman and a former trustee of Sri Venkatramana Temple, Car Street Surathkal Balachandra Kamath passed away this afternoon following terminal illness.

He was aged 57 years. He passed away at 1:00 p.m. at KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle, where he had been undergoing palliative care. For over two decades he had been harbouring a benign tumour of the optic nerve, which turned malignant about one year back.

Born on 31st August 1960 he was the fifth son of late Surathkal Ganesh Kamath and late Girija Kamath. He was educated at Canara High School Main and Canara College.

Surathkal Balachandra Kamath was a self made man, who found success in timber trade and as a civil contractor. He started his career executing major construction works for Canara High School and its associate institutions. Later he ventured into municipal civil contracts and road work.

He had served as a trustee of Sri Venkatramana Temple, Car Street from 2003 to 2005 and the temple renovation project was initiated during his term. He had also served as a trustee of his Kuladevatha shrine Shree Mahaganapathi Mahamaya Temple, Shirali and was a managing committee member of Surathkal branch of Shree Kashi Math. For the last 25 years, he used to religiously go to Mumbai as a volunteer for the famous GSB Seva Mandal’s Ganeshotsava celebrations, where he oversaw the VIP food distribution.

He is survived by his wife Chandrika and two children, son Vinayak and daughter Vijayalaxmi. He has 6 surviving siblings too.

Last rites will be performed at his residence ‘Ganesh Kripa’, near Bokkapatna School in the city at 8:00 p.m.

Madikeri, Jul 24: Water from river Cauvery, which is deemed as holy, and mud from Kodagu, the birth district of river Cauvery was collected and will be sent to Ayodhya for use during groundbreaking (Bhoomi Pooja) ceremony for the construction of Ram Mandir on August 5.

Workers of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Hindu Jagarana Vedike collected the soil and water from River Cauvery at Talacauvery Kshetra, the birthplace of river Cauvery.

Special pooja was offered at Talacauvery, praying for the timely completion of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

Mandya, Jul 6: With a journalist from Srirangapatna testing positive for Covid-19, the Mandya District Journalists Association was sealed as a precautionary measure.

Association President K C Manjunath said on Monday that as the reporter has tested positive for Covid-19, it was voluntarily decided to seal down the premises for another month.

United Marine Products, Karnataka and Goa has been awarded the MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) best exporter award for outstanding export performance of 2017-18 and second best exporter of 2018-19 from the govt of India under the category   "Fishmeal, Fish oil and Allied products." held at Grand Hyatt, LuLu convention center, Kochi.
 
The award was conferred in the presence of Central Minister for state, commerce and Industry Mr Som Parkash and Honourable minister for fisheries, govt of Kerala Mercy kutty Amma. Mr Muhammad Sameer, Managing Partner, received the award.
