Mangaluru, Jan 12: As part of Bharatiya Janata Party’s jail bharo campaign across Karnataka against chief minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks against saffron terrorists, scores of activists of BJP, RSS, VHP and other saffron groups tried to lay siege to Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee office at Kadri Mallikatte in Mangaluru on Friday.
Condemning the communal violence and other illegal activities carried out by the workers of BJP, RSS and other so called Hindutva groups in the state, Siddaramaiah had recently called them as terrorists. Though the BJP had sought an apology from the CM, the Congress party strongly defended his remarks.
In Mangaluru, the protest coincided with the visit of home minister Ramalinga Reddy, who also justified the CM. Over a hundred saffronists gathered in front of the Congress office and raised slogans against CM, other cabinet ministers and Congress party. When the protest was about to take a violent turn, the police intervened and took dozens of agitators into custody.
A senior police officer told coastaldigest.com that as many as 86 agitators were secured Section 71 of Police Act. Those detained included former MLA Yogish Bhat, former MLC Monappa Bhandary, HJV leader Satyajit Suratkal. They were released a while later, he said.
