Mangaluru: Cancer patient contesting on BJP ticket chants Modi mantra

Mangaluru, Nov 7: Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring her to fight against all odds, Jassel Viola D'Souza started her campaign as a BJP candidate for Mangaluru City Corporation elections on Thursday.

Talking to media persons, she said, she said, "The most inspiring thing for me is our PM's motto, 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. I want to go by it. Let's leave all the divisions of caste, creed, and religion behind and move ahead with the development of the country".

D'Souza was suffering from the papillary carcinoma cancer, popularly known as thyroid cancer. She had undergone radiation treatment for 2 years.

Sharing her anxiety, she said, "I have had tough times and I stood up here due to the support of my family, friends, and school. I request all who suffer from cancer, not to look back and just walk forward because there is a solution for everything".

She also thanked BJP for providing her with the opportunity to contest for the city corporation elections.

Assuring the people of resolving their problems, she said, 'My development would start from my ward, have a voice in the corporation and make changes in it. I have been witnessing the problems of my area for 2 years and have been closely following them. I have attended many rallies".

Mangaluru, Mar 21: The management of Ibrahim Khaleel mosque here on Saturday has decided to temporarily suspend all the prayers inside the mosque premises as a precautionary measure in view of Corona Virus which is spreading like wildfire in the State.

In an official note, the management urged people to remain safe and to pray at home adding that Jumuah, daily prayers and all the other events at the mosques were cancelled temporarily until further notice.

“This is an unavoidable move to save the lives from the infections of deadly Coronavirus” the note added on Saturday.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Karnataka State Board for Auqaf on Monday suspended mass prayers and visit to the Qabrasthans (graveyards) and dargahs on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on April 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is hereby directed to all not to hold congregational prayer in the Masjid and the management of the Qabrasthans/Dargahs throughout the State should suspend the visit of public on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on Thursday, April 9," according to a statement here on Monday.

It said, no public shall be allowed to perform religious rituals in the Qabrasthans/Dargahs and all the gates shall be kept closed.

Maddur, Feb 7: Two daily wage workers were buried alive after a heap of mud collapsed on them near the Agriculture Department office on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, in Maddur of Mandya district on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

Police said that the deceased, Kashinath (37), and Rajgandh (30), were working at a site of the ongoing Bengaluru-mysuru highway development project.
