Udupi, May 30: An elderly cattle-trader was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a coffee estate near Perdoor in Udupi district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Husainabba (65), a resident of Jokatte village in Mangaluru, who was transporting cattle in a vehicle along with a couple of associates.

According to sources, Husainabba and his colleagues had alighted run away when a team of police and activists of Bajrang Dal waylaid a cattle-laden vehicle last evening.

Thought the family members of the deceased have called it a case of murder and held Bajrang Dal activists responsible for it, the exact reason for the death will be known only after conducting post-mortem, a police officer said.

Laxman Nimbargi, superintendent of police, Udupi, told media persons that the cops had received a call regarding cattle theft and smuggling. When a sub inspector reached the spot with three constables, they spotted a vehicle. However, the suspect fled the spot before police could catch them.

“At around 11 p.m. we received information about a dead body and the family members identified it,” he said.

The family members of the deceased in their complaint to police have stated that Husainabba and others who were transporting cattle in a Scorpio started running after a gang waylaid it. Though the youngsters managed to escape, it is suspected that the elderly Husainabba collapsed and died while allegedly being chased by the suspected Bajrang Dal activists.

The police said that they recovered 12 cattle from the spot and two among them were dead.

The SP said that the aggrieved family members have called it a case of murder and named Surya and other Bajrang Dal activists in the complaint. “We have registered a case based on their complaint. On the other hand, we have also received a complaint about cattle theft,” he said adding that the police have already launched a probe into the incident.

If a Muslim transports his own cow from his udupi house to Mangalore house it will be considered illegal as per Indian law. If Sangh parivar activists intercept his vehicle while transporting, he has no other option but running away if he wants to survive.

People transport cattle illegally, because there is no option for non Bajrangees to transport them legally. It becomes legal when Bajrangees give them clean chit.

Varanasi, Jan 20: An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons for a controversial hoarding near the Varanasi railway station. It is worth mentioning here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is the MP of Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency.

The hoarding near the Englishiya Line crossing read, "Hindu dharma mein ghar vapasi karo... CAA, NRC se chhutkara pao (Get rid of CAA, NRC by converting to Hinduism)".

Inspector Ashutosh Ojha said that the FIR under section 295 A and 505 of IPC has been lodged.

"Investigation has been launched in the case and those involved in putting up the hoarding would be identified soon," he added.

According to sources, a lesser known outfit, Hindu Samaj Party, had placed the hoarding on the busy road.

The outfit's state Vice President Roshan Pandey had made a video viral on social media with his message in which he claimed to have put up the hoarding in response to the protest being staged at Shaheen Bagh, New Delhi.

The hoarding, which also has photographs of some Muslim women wearing saffron pagdi, was removed by the police late Saturday evening.

It came up at a time when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Smriti Irani and other leaders were in Varanasi to address a rally in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.

Pandey, along with his supporters, had also tried to stage a sit-in at Lanka to give a call for marching to Shaheen Bagh in Delhi but was prevented by the police.

They were taken in custody and were later released following initial interrogation, said inspector Lanka, Bharat Bhushan.

Bengaluru, Jul 21: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah on Monday attacked the ruling government and said press conference of Health Minister B Siramulu was more like an exercise to hide facts than presenting proof with accurate data.

"Got to know about the press conference addressed by B Siramulu and Dr Ashwathnarayan CN to clear accusations of corruption. It looked more like an exercise to hide facts than presenting proof with accurate data," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

"It is still unclear about the points presented in the press conference. They have not answered any of my questions which were raised earlier. I will respond in detail once I receive the written explanation from the govt. Minister has claimed that both Health & Medical education department together have spent Rs323 Cr. But the data presented by them does not even add up to Rs100 Cr. What happened to the rest of the money?," asked Siddaramaiah.

He said that Centre has procured ventilators at Rs4 lakh per unit under PM Cares. But only in our state, the ventilators are procured at Rs12-Rs18 lakh per unit

"Prime Minister's Office has procured ventilators at Rs4 lakh per unit under PM Cares. But only in our state, the ventilators are procured at Rs12-Rs18 lakh per unit. Why do we see such a huge difference in price? Ministers, in the press conference, have told that quality & technological capabilities are the reasons for huge price difference. Does it mean ventilators under PM Cares lack quality? Why did they not present the technical specifications to justify the same?" he asked.

"Not just about the procurement of medical equipment, I had even asked data about food kits, PDS distribution, beds procured, quarantine centres & isolation wards. Where is the data for that?" he asked in a series of tweets.
