Mangaluru: Class 5 girl commits suicide under mysterious circumstances

Mangaluru, Nov 28: A 10-year-old girl has reportedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in her grandmother’s house at Kemmaje near Mulky on the outskirts of the city last night.

Druvi, the deceased, was a Class 5 student of St Mary’s English Medium School in Kinnigoli.

The school had declared holiday on Wednesday on account of the anniversary of Kirem Church. Hence, Druvi had been to her grandmother’s house, it is learnt.

According to her grandmother, Druvi was watching TV. She asked her to read schoolbooks when the TV turned off due to power outage. Soon she went to a room.

When to power came back, the grandmother went to the room to find the girl dead. It is learnt that girl had used the long hair ribbon to hang herself from the room’s window grill.

Jurisdictional Mulky police have registered a case and investigations are on.

Employees of Expertise, Al-Muzain all set to fly from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru through charter flights

Mangaluru, May 29: Even as the thousands of Indian expatriates in Saudi Arabia are waiting for repatriation flights to return to India, a few NRI entrepreneurs are sending home their employees through chartered flights.

The government of India on May 21 had formally approved the repatriation of stranded Indian expatriate workers through chartered flights arranged by their employing companies particularly in Gulf region and elsewhere.

Expertise Contracting Co. Ltd headed by K S Sheik and Al-Muzain Est. headed by Zakaria Jokatte are among those who have hired charter flights to repatriate hundreds of employees to India amidst corona lockdown.

Mr Sheik said that his firm had applied for nine charter flights. "Two of the charter flights will carry 360 people to Mangaluru. Seven other flights will repatriate employees to Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and Hyderabad," he said, adding that the company will bear complete expense of their repatriation and quarantine facility after India.

Mr Jokatte three charter flights will fly from Dammam to Mangaluru International Airport on June 2, 5 and 8 carrying their employees.

Man booked over inflammatory WhatsApp message against Mangaluru Khazi

Mangaluru, Jan 10: A person has been booked for forwarding provocative message on WhatsApp against the Dakshina Kannada Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar.

According to police, the accused Hassan forwarded provocative messages against the Khazi in a WhatsApp group on December 31, following which he was booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Mangalore North Police are looking into the matter.

29 students fall sick after consuming milk in school

Mysuru, Feb 26: Twenty-nine students of the Government Primary School fell sick after consuming milk supplied at the school on Wednesday morning at Kiranguru village, in Hanagodu hobli, in the hunsur taluk in the district.

Police said the students were immediately rushed to the primary health centre in Hanagodu and provided first aid.

Tahsildar and Police personnel visited the health centre and inquired about the health of the students. "All the students are responding to the treatment," sources said.
