Mangaluru: Cong workers say ‘Kumaraswamy ki jai’; JD(S) activists says ‘Sonia Gandhi ki jai’

Mangaluru, May 20: After the chief minister B S Yeddyurappa opted for self-abortion of his government on Saturday paving way for the formation of JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the state, the workers of two parties in this coastal city raised slogans hailing each others’ leaders.

Soon after Yeddyurappa tendered his resignation without facing a floor test in the assembly, a group of JD(S) in front of the party office at Bendoorwell in the city distributed sweets and raised victory slogans. Interestingly, one among the workers shouted ‘Sonia Gandhi ki Jai’.

Speaking on the occasion JD(S) leader Vasanth Poojary said that the two parties have foiled all the unethical bid of BJP to purchase MLAs ahead of trust vote. He expressed hope that the coalition government led by H D Kumaraswamy would restore communal harmony in the coastal districts of Karnataka.

On the other hand, the workers of Congress party led by former MLA J R Lobo celebrated victory in front of the District Congress Committee office in the city.

While raising slogans hailing Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah, D K Shivakumar and others, they included the name of chief minister designate H D Kumaraswamy too. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Lobo accused the BJP of misusing all powers attempting for horse trading in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (CPI), which extended its support to the coalition government, said that the two parties should bury their minor differences for the national cause.

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A COVID-19 patient escaped from a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar.

A total of 1,925 cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths recorded in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 23,474.

The health department informed that the death toll rose to 372 while active cases stood at 13,251 in the state.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 6,73,165 numbers of COVID-19 cases and 19,268 deaths.

Newsroom, Jun 14: Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his house in Mumbai’s Bandra today, was heartbroken after the death of his former manager Disha Salian.

34-year-old actor had posted a heartfelt note after her death: “It’s such devastating news. My deepest condolences to Disha’s family and friends. May your soul rest in peace.” 

The police are considering 28-year-old Disha’s death as an accidental one and the investigation is on to find if it was a suicide. She died after falling off the 14th floor of a building in Malad, Mumbai on June 8.

It is not yet known if there is any connection between the two deaths. Sushant’s house help reportedly found him hanging inside his room on Sunday and cops are investigating the case. He was recently seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore and more recently on Netflix opposite Jacqueline Fernandez in Drive.

Who is Disha Salian?

Disha Salian hails from Karnataka’s coastal district of Udupi. She was born in 1992 into a business family background. She reportedly migrated to Mumbai with her family at an early age. 

After completing her education, she worked in the Times of India Group for more than three years. She went on to become the celebrity manager at Media Vantage.

Apart from Sushant, she had great links with many popular celebrities like Bharti Singh, Alisha Panwar, and others.

Bengaluru, May 4: First year Pre-University results of Karnataka Department of Pre-University Education will be released soon.

According to a report, the first year PU result will be released on the registered mobile numbers of students or parents on May 5. The report also asked the colleges which offers PU course that the PU results should not be released on the notice boards.

This measure has been taken keeping in view to avoid gatherings in and around the institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Deccan Herald report also said the students who are not able to clear the exams after the PU results are declared will be given a chance to appear for supplementary examinations in college level and further details on this will be shared with the institutes by the department in due course.

"After the declaration of results, colleges can conduct online classes for students who are eligible to attend second year PU classes," the report added.

The state is yet to complete the SSLC (class 10) and PU second year (higher secondary or class 12) examinations as the spread of coronavirus and subsequent lockdown announced by the government has put the whole academic activities out of gear in the state.

Recently, the education minister has said the SSLC examinations in the state will be conducted as it is a "crucial stage in a student's life".

"We will consider it (SSLC examinations) when the situation becomes normal," The New Indian Express quoted the minister as saying.

The Karnataka SSLC exam was scheduled to be held between March 27 and April 9, and over eight lakh students had registered for the exam.

Updates on the date and other decisions regarding PU second year exams are awaited.

Earlier, the school education department had decided to promote class 7 and 8 students without any exams in the wake of lockdown aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19.
