Mangaluru: Congress stages protest over delay on flood relief

Mangaluru, Sept 13: The members of the Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee had staged a protest dharna in the city in protest against the inordinate delay of the Union government providing grants for the rehabilitation of the victims of the recent rains and floods in the district.

Addressing members of the Congress, former minister B Ramanath Rai had charged that both the Union as well as the state government have totally failed in rehabilitating the flood victims, who were displaced and lost houses in the devastating rains in August.

He also accused that the Central study team which had visited the state recently did not cared to come to Dakshina Kannada district, which was one of the worst flood affected districts in the state.

Four new covid-19 positive cases in Karnataka, total reaches 55

Bengaluru, Mar 26: The number of COVI D-19 cases in Karnataka spiked to 55 on Thursday after four new cases were reported.

According to official sources, a 35-year-old man, who was a resident of Nanjanagud town in Mysuru taluk and worked in a pharma unit, tested positive for coronavirus.

He had been quarantined in his home and efforts are being made to track down as many as seven persons, who had primary contact with
him.

Two arrested in Kundapur for threatening to kill ASHA workers

Kundapur, Apr 28: The local police have arrested two people for threatening and preventing an Associated Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers from discharging their duties during the lockdown.

Police said on Tuesday that the arrested are Sandeep Mesta and Mahesh Kharvi.

According to official sources, the health officials had put Sandeep under quarantine for 28 days.

However, he was seen wandering in the streets and ASHA worker C Laxmi warned him to stay indoors.

Irked by the warning Sandeep, along with his friend Mahesh Kharvi waylaid her and threatened to kill for objecting his movement.

Govt makes a U-turn, stops sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms

New Delhi, Apr 19: The government on Sunday prohibited the sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms during the ongoing lockdown, four days after allowing such companies to sale mobile phones, refrigerators and ready-made garments.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla issued an order excluding the non-essential items from sale by the e-commerce companies from the consolidated revised guidelines, which listed the exemption given to the services and people from the purview of the lockdown.

The order said the following clause -- "E-commerce companies. Vehicles used by e-commerce operators will be allowed to ply with necessary permissions" -- is excluded from the guidelines.

The previous order had said such items were allowed for sale through e-commerce platforms from April 20.

However, the reason for reversing the order is not known immediately.
